One of the goals of the FUFC is to help Florida communities reach "managing status" with SOAP. A managing community is defined as a local urban forestry program having professional STAFF, an enforced tree ORDINANCE, active citizen ADVOCACY, and an urban forestry PLAN.

Use our website as a toolkit to help turn your developing community into a managing community. Find the tools you need at https://fufc.org/soap-resources/

If you're looking for things to do this summer with your children, learning to identify trees is a great way to begin a lifelong appreciation for their surroundings. Because Florida has the most native tree species of any state in the U.S., there are a lot of trees to identify! The FUFC Kids Korner website offers many links to help get started (under Module 1: Trees).

Final Call: Don’t miss this Foundational Friday!

🌳 Is Your Tree Abuse the Same as Mine?
🗓️ Friday, May 29th
⏰ 12:00 PM ET

This session dives into one of the most important (and debated) questions in urban forestry: When should a tree be restored—and when is it time for removal?

Join John Harris & John Snow as they walk through:
• How “Tree Abuse” is defined and applied
• What qualifies as a tree being “Effectively Destroyed”
• Why inconsistent interpretations lead to vastly different outcomes
• How communities can align around stronger, clearer standards

These decisions impact not just individual trees—but the long-term health of entire urban forests. This webinar is FREE to FUFC Members or $20 for Non-Members. For info, visit https://fufc.org.

Is your child finishing 4th grade, or looking forward to becoming a fourth grader? DYK? Every Kid Outdoors program was created so fourth graders and their families could discover our wildlife, resources, and history for free. This program offers free access for an entire year to federal land or water recreation sites. Create your child’s pass, and the entire family can use it this summer as you vacation. There are parks to visit all over the U.S. – many are in Florida!

Visit everykidoutdoors.gov to get your pass. If you are looking for other resources, visit our Kids Korner at fufc.org.
