Congratulations to Fivay High School in Pasco County for earning recognition for the highest overall seat belt use in this year’s Battle of the Belts campaign!
This accomplishment reflects strong student participation, positive peer influence, and a shared commitment to keeping each other safe every time they get in a vehicle. 🚗
This program is facilitated through the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Safe Kids Program, which partners with schools across the region to promote teen driver safety.
📊 Safety fact:
Motor vehicle crashes are still the leading cause of death for teens in the United States. Wearing a seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash.
📈 The proof:
Research consistently shows that teen seat belt use improves when schools build strong peer-led safety norms. When buckling up becomes something we all do then safer behavior spreads quickly across campuses.
Thank you to students, staff, and partners who helped make this achievement possible. This is what school-wide safety culture looks like in action.

Safe Kids Florida Suncoast Florida Summit 2026!! We had the opportunity to organize and host a day of learning, networking, and collaboration among injury prevention professionals in our outreach area and from across the state.
On the second day, the Safe Kids Coordinators met at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital to discuss issues which impact our state and to strategize how to best address them. Many thanks to the Safe Kids FL Suncoast for their hard work on the Summit and Safe Kids Florida for all the support.
