Fun for families at the Weedon Island Preserve!

The Friends of Weedon Island partnered with Jump It, to provide an exciting day at Weedon Island Preserve.

It all started with a run on the boardwalks of the Preserve.

Following lunch, The Bug Man (Damon Chepren from Wild World Experience, LLC) shared his ‘wildlife’ friends with the participants…tarantula, hedgehog and ball python OH MY! The wonder replacing the apprehension of holding these animals was pretty amazing to see. The visit of his adopted African Tortoise was pretty cool. It looked like our Gopher Tortoises, but she is going to be huge.

The day ended with a Silent Disco. So Cool!

Pinellas County has just given the Friends approval to conduct the next Gopher Weedon Trail Run on October 24, 2026! Congratulations to Board members Michelle Goldstein and Peter Wahlberg for making this happen!

Co-Race Directors Michelle and Chloe Kamps will be looking for volunteers to assist with the numerous activities necessary to make this event a success. These include soliciting donations, race photography, registering runners, guiding runners on the course, food preparation, and other roles. Please put the date on your calendar and volunteer to help.

2026 Gopher Weedon Tot Trot. All had fun learning about the threatened Gopher Tortoises. The Gopher Weedon Tot Trot followed. Thanks to all who participated in the cuteness!
