In a world with many troubles, though, some children fall behind their classmates at a very young age when it comes to literacy. comes into action. Our free, volunteer-driven program nourishes the minds of early elementary school children who need the most help and sets them on a path for future learning. Whatever reason

their abilities lag, whether due to problems at home or their own abilities, YMCA READS! uses proven, research-based tools to ignite the minds of these students whose teachers have said they are at risk for lifelong reading difficulties. Thanks to our volunteers who meet twice-a-week with no more than two students at a time, Y READS! has been able to create, positive, nurturing environments within our local schools for the last 9 years. Currently the program operates in 15 public schools, 9 participating YMCAs in 9 counties in Florida. is implemented in partnership between the Department of Education, the Florida Alliance of YMCAs, YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg as Fiscal Agent.
