Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States. A day of freedom long delayed, and a reminder of the generations who endured unimaginable injustice.

It is a time to remember, to honor, and to reflect on the lives, stories, and courage of those who fought for liberation.

But Juneteenth also calls us to look honestly at the present, because while slavery was legally abolished, exploitation and modern slavery still exist today, affecting vulnerable individuals and communities across our nation.

The Salvation Army continues that fight today through our anti‑human trafficking programs, walking alongside survivors with love, safety, dignity, compassion, and hope.

We believe honoring the past means choosing how we live today, supporting one another, extending grace, treating every person with respect, and serving in ways that protect freedom and uphold humanity.

Did you ever notice hope finds us when we need it most?

In Scripture, we see this clearly in the story of the loaves and fishes. What began as a small offering transformed into more than enough. Jesus took what was given, blessed it and used it to feed thousands. In that moment, he met physical hunger, but he also restored something deeper: hope.

And Jesus knows we still need hope today.

Across our community, many neighbors face uncertainty and hunger. Through The Salvation Army’s food assistance programs, individuals and families receive nourishment, care, dignity and the reassurance that they are not alone.

Hope heals in ways we cannot always see right away. It restores strength to keep going. It reminds someone that their story is not over. And often, it begins with something as simple as a meal.
