Should we spend our whole lives working, all just to pay a landlord's mortgage for them? We don't think so!!!

Working families deserve safe, well-maintained, and high-quality housing. And, it should be at a fair price β€” not the price that best optimizes investment returns for parasitic landlords! The struggle for housing justice is one of the primary fronts in the broader struggle for a better world. But, it's a struggle that we have to wage city by city, block by block, and door by door!

Come join us on June 18th for the next joint meeting of the PDSA Housing Working Group and the St. Petersburg Tenants' Union!

We had an amazing fundraiser for Cuba last weekend at Bar Chica! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ί

In total, our chapter has raised over $1900 this year to send hydration kits & sutures to Cuba (learn more & make a solidarity contribution here: https://international.dsausa.org/help-dsa-send-medical-aid-to-cuba/)!

A million and one thanks to the folks at Bar Chica for providing the space, our presenters for offering an informative and emotionally touching presentation, and to everyone who helped run sound and video, manned the tables, made flyers, and donated to the fundraiser πŸ’• Β‘Cuba sΓ, bloqueo no! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ί

SUNDAY, JUNE 7!!! Show out in solidarity with the Cuban people!

FILM SCREENING & FUNDRAISER!! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ί HELP CUBA WITHSTAND THE IMPERIALIST ONSLAUGHT!! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ί

For decades, the US blockade has restricted Cuba's access to critical resources, limiting access to essential medicines and medical equipment and creating serious challenges for the country's healthcare system. Although the brave resistance of the Cuban people is inspiring, the imperialists dominating the US government remain as desperate as ever to see socialist Cuba starved into submission.

Join us on June 7 for a screening of the award-winning documentary "The War on Cuba," produced by Belly of the Beast. This event is a fundraiser to help address the critical need for essential medications and medical equipment on the island. A suggested donation of $10 will go directly toward purchasing medical supplies for communities in Cuba, providing tangible support where it is needed most.

Come watch, learn more about the realities facing the Cuban people, and contribute to an effort that will directly benefit working people on the island!

The Morgan Apartments is a distressed complex in South St. Pete. For years, the owners collected onerous rents and ignored essential maintenance, showing persistent negligence and disregard for their obligations to their tenants and to our community. But, now that the property is facing foreclosure, St. Pete has an incredible opportunity.

The Morgan Apartments could be transformed into safe, high-quality, permanently affordable public housing. We hereby call on St. Pete City Council to acquire the property and put it under public ownership for the permanent benefit of residents, not slum lords or speculators!

This is a chance to preserve affordable housing, improve living conditions and offer stability and peace of mind to hundreds of working class families, and create a permanent model that prioritizes people over profit. But, it's only only gonna happen if elected officials hear from the community, and feel the pressure to act now!

Join us at City Council and speak in support of public housing. Tell YOUR representatives that we need bold solutions to the housing crisis. No more waiting! No more excuses! HOUSING NOW!!!

INCREDIBLE NEWS!!! After more than a year of agitation and dedicated organizing, our campaign won a MAJOR victory yesterday, as St. Pete City Council voted to commission a feasibility study for a public electricity utility in St. Pete! That means we're one step closer to DUMPING DUKE ENERGY!!!

Thank you to everyone that spent the afternoon in council chambers with us today to help make the study for public power in St Petersburg a reality!

Especially all the Duke Energy executives (-:

Members of the community gathered outside the Second District Court of Appeals building in downtown St. Pete back in May to tell Governor DeSantis: we reject your unconstitutional redistricting scheme!

This gerrymander is an attack on communities of color, The Working Class as a whole, and the foundational principle that voters should choose their representatives, rather than the other way around. THE PEOPLE refuse to accept these attacks on democratic rights in silence!

This fight against the DeSantis Regime's plan is about more than lines on a map; it's about political power! It's about ensuring that The Working Class has a voice in the decisions that affect their lives!

TOMORROW!! ALL OUT FOR PUBLIC POWER!!

TOMORROW!! ALL OUT FOR PUBLIC POWER!!

Public power is the future of St. Pete. It's time to dump Duke Energy and take back our electric grid from this unaccountable monopoly. But, the first step is to get the facts.

This Thursday, City Council holds a crucial vote on the commissioning of a feasibility study for a publicly owned electricity utility for St. Pete. This study will give residents and policymakers the information needed to make an informed decision about the future of our grid, including costs, governance, reliability, and long-term impacts.

WE NEED YOU to make your voice heard in front of City Council this Thursday. Tell your councilmember: commission the study. GIVE US THE FACTS ON PUBLIC POWER IN ST. PETE!⚑️⚑️⚑️
