Surprise, St. Peters — we have armadillos living among us. We don’t see them often, but when we do, they sometimes need a helping hand.
If you spot one that’s injured or stuck, please reach out to Animal Control. This sweet little guy was found hurt at a gas station and is now getting the care he needs at a wildlife rescue.
Thanks for looking out for our local critters.

Puppy season is here, and we love seeing new furry family members! A quick reminder: early socialization is essential. Without it, dogs can develop fear and behavioral issues, something Animal Control often encounters. If you’re planning to bring home a puppy, make sure you have the time to help them explore, learn, and grow with confidence.

If you’ve been out at events around town, you’ve probably seen the petting zoos. But here’s something many people don’t know: Animal Control checks every one of them.
They make sure the animals have shade, water, rest, and show no signs of sickness or injury. It’s one of the ways our City goes the extra mile to keep both families and animals safe and happy.

Did you know that the Pet Adoption Center lets people volunteer to take the shelter dogs on outings? Maybe you want to explore a new park, but don't have a friend to go with? Well, contact the Pet Adoption Center and see if you can volunteer to take one of the shelter dogs with you. You both get exercise, and the dogs get some great time to decompress from the shelter and have some new experiences.

This morning’s trail users got a sweet surprise. A gorgeous wild turkey was enjoying the paths right alongside them. Encounters like this remind us how important our parks and trails are for local wildlife.
Please be respectful: observe from a distance, never approach, and keep dogs leashed while in the parks. Wild animals will defend themselves if they feel threatened and they cannot get away. Giving them space keeps both people and pets safe.

Did you know? The City has an ordinance that prohibits animals from free roaming in the bed of a moving truck. For everyone’s safety, animals must be properly secured inside the truck bed to prevent them from jumping or falling out while the vehicle is in motion. This rule helps protect pets, drivers, and other people on the road. Residents are encouraged to read the full City ordinance for more details. ecode360.com/32823434

Update: This baby deer was left for mom to take care of. It was healthy.

Animal Control has started receiving calls about baby deer (fawns) found alone. Did you know this is completely normal? Until a fawn is strong enough to keep up, the mother deer leaves it safely hidden while she goes off to feed. This isn’t abandonment — it’s a survival strategy. By staying away, the mother avoids attracting predators to her newborn. As they grow, they may wander short distances, but they still rely on their mothers. Most does return at dawn and dusk to feed or move their young. Animal Control will not remove a fawn unless it is crying constantly, visibly injured, or the mother is confirmed deceased. A quiet, still fawn is behaving exactly as nature intended.
This little one below was found at a resident’s home this weekend
