The Saint Peter Fire Department would like to extend a huge thank you to the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team for providing an outstanding drone demonstration for our members.

A special thank you to Emergency Management Director/Deputy Justin Block, Investigator Jay Link, and Deputy Drew Link for taking the time to showcase the drones and specialized equipment utilized by the team. Members were able to see firsthand the capabilities of the drones during a live demonstration flight and learn how this technology can assist emergency responders in a variety of situations.

The drone team and fire department members discussed how drones can become valuable tools during certain fire incidents, search and rescue operations, and scene assessments. The team also explained additional uses for their drone program, including searching for fleeing suspects, locating lost children or adults, and providing scene reconnaissance.

We appreciate the continued partnership and collaboration with the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office and value the opportunity to learn more about the technology and resources available to help keep our community safe.

The Saint Peter Fire Department has begun conducting our annual fire hose testing process. This testing is required each year by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to ensure our equipment is safe, reliable, and ready to perform when needed most.

This process involves pulling every hose off every apparatus in our fleet. Each hose is then connected to a hose testing machine where it is filled with water, capped, and pressurized to its designated maximum testing pressure. The hose must successfully hold that pressure for a specified amount of time to pass inspection.

Any hose that fails the test or shows signs of leaking, damage, or weakness is immediately taken out of service and replaced to ensure firefighter and public safety.

After testing, hoses are either placed back into service on the truck or rolled, dried, and properly racked for storage. This is a time-consuming but critical process that takes place throughout the month, with firefighters assigned specific trucks to complete the testing.

Routine hose testing helps ensure that when firefighters arrive on scene, the equipment they depend on is operating safely and effectively. Thank you to our firefighters for the hard work and dedication that goes into maintaining our department’s readiness and keeping our community safe.
