We’re seeing an increase in tick bites among Nicollet County residents visiting local emergency departments this season. Now is a good time to take a few simple steps to protect yourself outdoors.

Ticks in our area can carry illnesses like Lyme disease. Early removal and prevention make a difference.

Protect yourself:
• Check yourself, children, and pets after being outdoors
• Pay attention to hidden spots like behind knees, under arms, scalp, and waistline
• Shower soon after coming inside
• Use EPA-approved repellent (like DEET) or wear permethrin-treated clothing
If you find a tick:
• Remove it right away with tweezers, pulling straight out close to the skin
• Clean the bite area
• Watch for symptoms such as rash, fever, or unusual fatigue

If symptoms develop, contact your healthcare provider.
Enjoy the outdoors, and stay tick-aware this season!

Nicollet County has officially launched Everbridge, our new emergency notification system designed to help keep residents informed and safe during urgent situations.

Everbridge allows emergency officials to send timely alerts about situations such as hazardous road conditions, water advisories, gas leaks, evacuation notices, and more. Notifications can be delivered directly to you by text message or by email, helping you stay informed when it matters most.

Nicollet County previously used CodeRED. Please note that residents will need to sign up for the new Everbridge system in order to continue receiving alerts.

The Minnesota DNR is launching a new electronic licensing system on June 9. Phase one of the launch will include the hunting and fishing modules.
,
The new system offers three ways to buy a license (mobile app, online, or in-person from a license agent) and three ways to carry it (paper, PDF, or stored in the app).

As part of this transition, hunting and fishing licenses will be temporarily unavailable for purchase between June 2 - 8 as we switch over to the new system. During that time, people may fish without a license in Minnesota. All regulations for the season and bag limits will remain in effect. On June 9, fishing licenses will again be required, and you will be able to purchase them through the new system.

Turkey hunters need to register their harvest before the end of day (11:59 pm) June 1. They will be unable to register their harvest during the transition/cutover period.

For now, nothing changes for those needing to register or title recreational vehicles and watercraft. That module of the new system will launch later.
