All About Policy Presentations held at Community Action which was sponsored by We Vote MN Coalition & Hosted by CAP. The event consisted of approximately 25 community members including 7 students from High School for the Recording Arts. This event presentation consisted of two panels, one panel highlighted the ethnic councils. The following Councils were in attendance, The Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage, The Council for Latino Affairs, The Council on Asian Pacific Minnesotans. The conversation was based on whether the Councils work together during Legislative process and how is legislation created? Where does the conversation or ideas begin? The other panel consisted of James Chang from the Wilder Foundation,,who focused on how bills are formed, from issues to policies, Annastacia Belladonna-Carrera from Common Cause, who spoke on the 2017 legislative session policy recap, Terri Thao from Nexus/BCLI who focused on importance of diversifying boards. The panels were very effective in breaking down how the legislative process works and letting people know that if you are not in the room, your voice is not present. Letting community members know that if you want to see change, it starts with an idea or issue.

We have all been touched by the verdict, and would like to reassure all of our brethren of African heritage to exercise patience and strength as we try to make sense of what happened. As you know, we of African heritage are proud people, and we have suffered humiliations and atrocities in a place that we now call our home, regardless of our origins. Ancestors have fought and died to enrich our lives with dignity and value amist social injustices. Although we continue to suffer and our blood continues to flow in our own streets and neighborhoods, through our pain we must continue to keep hope alive for the sake of our children.

Best Regards,
Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage
