Metropolitan Council

Metropolitan Council Regional planning for the 7-county Twin Cities metro area. They are all appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the governor.

The Council delivers regional services to communities and the public through four divisions and operating areas: Regional Administration/Chair's Office, Community Development, Transportation, and Environmental Services. The 17-member Metropolitan Council has 16 members who each represent a geographic district and one chair who serves at large. The State Senate confirms Council member appointments. The Council employs about 3,700 people.

Join our Livable Communities Advisory Committee (LCAC)!

This group reviews and recommend development project grant awards through the Livable Communities program. Projects primarily focus on affordable multi-family rental housing and homeownership projects, while some are community-centered commercial projects.
