Thank you Cheniqua Johnson - Saint Paul City Councilwoman, Ward 7 for standing up against disinvestment and fighting for our library and rec centers. The East Side deserves better—and we’re glad you’re fighting for it! 💪🏾❤️

I’m Speaking Out on the Proposed 2027 East Side Budget Cuts & Closures

The proposed 2027 budget includes significant cuts and closures that would impact the East Side - including Dayton’s Bluff Library, Duluth & Case Recreation Center, and Highwood Hills Recreation Center.

These decisions cannot be looked at in isolation. The budget may be organized by department, but inequity happens by geography.

I hear East Side residents, and I am not prepared to accept that losing these neighborhood resources is inevitable. You cannot ask a community to pay more and continually give it less.

Mark your calendars and join your neighbors on September 24 to talk about the proposed closure of our library. This invitation is from Cheniqua Johnson - Saint Paul City Councilwoman, Ward 7

"Join me for a community conversation about the future of the Dayton’s Bluff Library. We’ll talk about where things currently stand, what the proposed closure could mean for our community, and most importantly, how we can work together to advocate for keeping library services in Dayton’s Bluff and on the East Side.

Thursday, September 24, 6:00 PM
Metro State University / EcoLab Multi-purpose Room (3rd Floor of Dayton’s Bluff Library Building).

This library is more than a building. It’s a place where our neighbors access books, technology, resources, connection, and opportunity. Decisions about its future should include the voices of the people who use it and the community it serves.

Bring your questions. Bring your ideas. Bring your stories about what the Dayton’s Bluff Library means to you and your family.

Friends and neighbors! Our library is on the chopping block. You heard that right. The city of St Paul has a whopping budget deficit to fix. While we applaud efforts to balance the budget, closing a library in an under-resourced neighborhood is not the way to go.

The City might open another branch in our neighborhood in the future, but so far, no plans have been articulated. The Dayton's Bluff library should not be closed unless there is a fully funded replacement plan in place.

What can you do?
