Our Department protects the civil rights of Minnesotans through the Minnesota Human Rights Act, one of the strongest civil rights laws in the country, to ensure Minnesotans can live free from discrimination.

Commissioner Rebecca Lucero shared her thoughts on yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling on the Voting Rights Act:

Almost every day we witness another painful example of federal civil rights being decimated and weaponized. The Supreme Court’s decision to further gut the Voting Rights Act is the latest deliberate unraveling of the work of generations of people who sacrificed to enshrine protections from racial discrimination. And yet, the work goes on. We remain resilient and grateful to everyone insisting and pushing and creating a world rooted in dignity and joy, free from discrimination.
