West Side Safe Neighborhood Council

The West Side Safe Neighborhood Council (WSSC) is a grassroots organization working to improve neighborhood safety, reduce violence, and build community connections on the West Side of St. WSSNC was created in 1984, independent of the district council to focus specifically on issues pertaining to crime and to support the development of local Block Clubs with th

e common goal of building a safe community for everyone. The West Side Safe Neighborhood Council (WSSC) provides the the West Side community an organization focusing on crime prevention education, empowering neighbors, and the necessary support and tools to communicate with one another, the St. Paul Police Department (SPPD), and the other agencies serving the community by:
Organizing the West Side neighborhood into local Block clubs with the common goal of building and maintaining a safe community for everyone; fostering an environment of individual ownership of the community and cross the barriers of socio-economic, educational and ethnic backgrounds. Working with residents and the SPPD to establish and maintain a relationship of trust and cooperation in order to reduce crime and violence on the West Side; WSSNC facilitates meetings with the SPPD and the community allowing citizens to bring their concerns directly to Police Officers. Providing community support through events promoting crime prevention each year WSSNC provides neighbors with the necessary support to facilitate a National Night Out celebration that is nationally recognized. West Side Safe partnered with District 8 Planning Council with a goal to reduce the number of vacant homes in their respective neighborhoods. One of the action items in that plan was creation of the Urban Cottage Living fan pages for the West Side and Rondo neighborhoods.
