Big news for St. Paul’s West Side.

The Saint Paul City Council has accepted a $777,000 grant from the Metropolitan Council to expand Safe Routes to Schools and make it easier and safer for kids to walk and bike to school.

This investment will improve six locations across the West Side, including the corner of George and Humboldt. New curb bump-outs will help shorten crossing distances and improve visibility so kids can get across the street more safely. Near Parque Castillo and El Rio, we’ll also be adding a raised crosswalk to better support families moving through the area every day.

Across all six sites, these changes are designed to slow traffic, improve safety, and strengthen connections between home, school, and neighborhood.

Safer streets mean more kids walking and biking, more active transportation, and healthier communities for everyone!

St. Paul is at a turning point on housing and economic development, and the choices we make right now will shape our city for decades.

A recent Twin Cities analysis underscores what many already feel on the ground. Downtown recovery is still uneven. Housing costs remain out of reach for too many. And we need a clearer, more coordinated strategy to attract investment while making sure long term residents and small businesses are not left behind.

Ramsey County is also advancing a major economic development push focused on downtown St. Paul, housing production, and better use of public land. That kind of regional alignment matters. But alignment alone is not the finish line.

We have to turn this moment into results people can actually feel. More housing people can afford. A downtown that is active and safe throughout the day and night. Strong support for local businesses that are already here doing the work.

I’m encouraged by the momentum. Now the focus has to be ex*****on and accountability, so that growth in St. Paul works for everyone, not just a few.

The Ramsey County Economic Development Authority is expected to direct up to $1 million annually toward St. Paul business growth.

🌿 Saint Paul Adopts Updated Climate Action & Resilience Plan

Last week, the Saint Paul City Council unanimously adopted an updated Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP), strengthening our city’s roadmap for a healthier, more sustainable, and more resilient future.

Originally adopted in 2019, the plan sets ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, prepare for the impacts of climate change, and ensure that climate solutions benefit all Saint Paul residents - especially those most impacted by environmental and economic inequities.

This updated version builds on years of progress and community input and lays out a clear five-year action plan focused on:

🌎 Reducing emissions from buildings and transportation
⚡ Expanding clean energy and energy efficiency
🚶‍♀️ Supporting walking, biking, and transit options
🌿 Investing in climate resilience and urban green space
🤝 Advancing climate justice by prioritizing vulnerable neighborhoods
📊 Strengthening coordination and accountability across city departments

As Council President Rebecca Noecker noted, this update helps move Saint Paul from long-term goals into coordinated, measurable action so we can continue building a city that is not only addressing climate change, but also improving public health, affordability, and quality of life.

This is about practical steps today that protect our future tomorrow.

This is what makes Saint Paul special.

Grand Old Day is more than a festival. It’s neighbors connecting, families making memories, local businesses thriving, and thousands of people coming together to celebrate community.

I was honored to help kick off the day by welcoming participants at the Grand Old Day Fun Run before a full day of music, food, activities, and fun on Grand Avenue. Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, businesses, and community members who make this beloved tradition possible year after year.

Here’s to another Grand Old Day and another great summer in Saint Paul! ☀️🎉

Every person deserves to get where they're going safely.

This past Tuesday, I joined Sergeants with the Saint Paul Police Department's Traffic & Pedestrian Safety Unit at West 7th and Goodrich for a Stop for Me safe crossing event focused on pedestrian safety and driver awareness.

Stop for Me is a partnership between the Saint Paul Police Department, community organizations, and residents that works to improve compliance with Minnesota's crosswalk laws through education, enforcement, and public awareness.

We chose this location intentionally. Data shows that West 7th continues to experience serious crashes involving pedestrians, underscoring the need for continued education and safety efforts along this corridor.

Whether you're walking, biking, rolling, or driving, we all have a role to play in keeping our streets safe. Slow down, stay alert, and remember: if someone is waiting to cross, stop for them.
