SCHOOL SPIRIT! Truly, one of the highlights of each year is attending the school year kickoff hosted by Mankato Area Public Schools. Almost 1000 local teachers staff and students are there - and all flying the various school colors and fight songs as well! We are incredibly proud of all our local schools: the students, the parents - and the men and women who make our schools run.

Everybody loves a county fair! Glad to spend time at the Nicollet County MN fair in City of Saint Peter, Minnesota, and meet with great folks (young and old) from all over the area. Thx to our fair organizers, vendors, and staff.

This news shows Minnesota has to do better in how we support MSU Mankato. The state has an obligation to each campus to support and be a good partner. Needless to say, with our university seeing record enrollment, excellent faculty, and overall the Maverick students getting a great education, we’d like to get the word out. As for the budget news here from KEYC News Now, we will review at both the state and local level.

I had the pleasure of attending the EXCELLENT Minnesota Social Service Association Region 9 Legislative Breakfast this morning in Mankato. We welcomed social workers, county commissioners, providers and our state MSSA members. Topics included our continued need to modernize outdated county IT infrastructure, and concerns and budget pressures at the county level due to state mandates and HR1. MSSA have always been great partners with the state, and their members provide critical support for a broad range for Minnesotans who need services. I was happy to participate in the discussion this morning. Thanks to MSSA for having me!

I was happy to join a legislative panel today with the Greater Mankato Growth Young Professionals program. GMG facilitates networking opportunities, professional development programs, and social opportunities for young professionals who live and work throughout our communities. Topics of conversation included why we chose to run, how we respond to emails/outreach from constituents, bipartisanship and more - it was great to see so many people invested in our community’s success engaged with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle. Thx to my colleagues Representative Luke Frederick, Senator Rich Draheim, and Representative Bjorn Olson for joining me at the event.

Thanks to the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities for honoring me with a Legislator of Distinction award at their dinner last night. CGMC represents over 100 Minnesota cities outside of the metropolitan area, and their advocacy ensures that rural voices have a seat at the table up at the Capitol.

CGMC members care about the basics: water infrastructure, roads and bridges, and keeping property taxes low. I’m always happy to partner with them in their advocacy and efforts.

Manufacturing jobs in district create long term stability. I was proud to attend a ribbon cutting for a new Logistics Operating Center at the Rolls Royce facility in Mankato today; this new center is a $24 million investment in Mankato, our neighbors, and US energy resilience. Thx to Mayor Massad and many more who attended the grand opening with me!
