In 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation meant nothing without enforcement. It took two more years and Union troops marching into Texas before freedom was real for Black Americans. Juneteenth reminds us that justice delayed is justice denied. And as the Trump Administration works to divide rather than unite, we know the work isn't over.

This morning, I attended the grand opening of the new Apple Valley transit station at 157th Street- a critical addition to Dakota County's transit system. Minnesota continues to lead the nation in transit electrification, and it was exciting to see MVTA's e-vehicles designed to serve individual and small group transportation needs across the region.

"Leaders at Helping Paws say they're channeling their grief over the Hortman family into a mission of hope with their new litter of 10 puppies. Far left is Melissa and Mark Hortman's son, Colin."

Wonderful WCCO segment and tribute to the Hortmans.

Melissa's public service was always people-centered, and Minnesotans will benefit from it for generations. But she was more than a leader in the community; she was a mom, a daughter, a friend, and someone who cared deeply about giving back every day and leaving a place better than you found it. I miss her.

We had a wonderful day participating in the Helping Paws 5K Fundraiser last weekend.

This year, the legislature sponsored a new litter of service dogs to honor our friends Melissa and Mark Hortman. They will be the "G" litter, named after Gilbert Hortman. 🐾 It was great to see Petra again, the proud mom and beautiful Golden Retriever who testified in support of the funding at the Capitol.

We've come a long way since Stonewall, but progress is under attack by the Trump Administration. I'll continue to fight for our LGBTQ2+ neighbors in Apple Valley and Minnesota because everyone deserves to live as their authentic selves.

This session, House DFLers fought to stabilize hospitals, expand mental health funding, and stand up for Minnesotans who deserve care they can count on.

But the work is far from over. Insurance companies are still failing families and Big Pharma is failing our hospitals, putting profits ahead of patients. We need a health care system that works for people, not corporations.

This is one of the biggest, most impactful policy wins of the YEAR. All session long, DFLers were adamant that we needed to pass legislation to save HCMC — and we just did.

It is infuriating that House Republicans continue to stand in the way of common-sense gun violence prevention legislation, including a proposal to ban military-style assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, binary triggers, and ghost guns. Minnesotans have been pleading for lawmakers to act after last year's tragedy at Annunciation Church, and they don't deserve any more excuses or delays.

Members of our communities want lawmakers to deliver real action on gun violence prevention. We will keep fighting for policies that save lives.

Gun violence prevention groups delivered a petition Thursday to Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth, demanding that she hold a vote on an assault weapons ban.
