Chief Howard stopped by the St. Paul Elementary morning meeting today to visit with students about bike, e-bike, and e-scooter safety.

He talked about some simple but important things like wearing a helmet, wearing bright colors so drivers can see you, and following the rules of the road (yes, that means stopping at stop signs too).

We also want to remind parents to have a quick safety talk with your kids before they head out riding, especially if they’ll be near streets or traffic.

Thanks to St. Paul Elementary for having us in this morning. We always enjoy getting the chance to spend time with the kids!

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

The St. Paul Police Department would like to warn the public about a fraudulent “Final Enforcement Notice” that has been circulating through text messages, emails, and mail claiming to be from Nebraska courts regarding unpaid tolls, parking tickets, or traffic violations.

These notices may:
* Threaten suspension of your driver’s license or vehicle registration
• Demand immediate payment
• Contain QR codes or suspicious payment links
• Use official-looking court language and seals to appear legitimate

Please be aware:
• Nebraska courts and law enforcement agencies do NOT demand immediate payment through QR codes or unsolicited text messages.
• Douglas County Court does not issue threats in this format for unpaid tolls. (Nebraska doesn't have toll roads)
• Scammers often use fear and urgency to pressure victims into paying quickly.

If you receive one of these notices:
• Do NOT scan the QR code
• Do NOT click any links or provide personal information
• Do NOT send payment

Instead:
• Verify any court matter directly with the court using official contact information
• Report suspicious messages to your local law enforcement agency
• Delete the message if confirmed fraudulent.

If you believe you may have been targeted or victimized by this scam, contact the St. Paul Police Department.

Please share this post to help protect others from becoming victims

Yesterday, April 30, 2026, the St. Paul Police Department had the honor of hosting training presented by Give Blue Hope.

The training was instructed by Tiffany Yant, daughter of fallen Ceresco, Nebraska Police Officer Ross Bartlett, who tragically passed away in the line of duty two years ago this month. Tiffany shared her family’s experience and provided valuable insight into the realities families and agencies face following a line-of-duty death.

This important training focused on preparing agencies and families for the unimaginable loss of a law enforcement officer in the line of duty. Officers were provided family resource packets designed to help guide loved ones through the difficult process that follows a line-of-duty death. The training also provided our agency with guidance and model policies to ensure departments are prepared to properly support officers’ families and their agencies should tragedy ever occur.

Give Blue Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping bridge the financial gap for the families of law enforcement officers, corrections officers, and first responders who are killed in the line of duty while serving their communities.

We sincerely thank Tiffany Yant and Give Blue Hope for taking the time to provide this meaningful and important training to our officers.

Thank you for having us, and the delicious food!

We just wanted to share a quick update with everyone about something going on behind the scenes here at the St. Paul Police Department.

Over the past several weeks, Chief Howard has spent a lot of time going through and updating our department policies to make sure we meet Nebraska’s law enforcement accreditation standards.

In simple terms, accreditation is a process that makes sure agencies are following solid, up-to-date practices in areas like training, use of force, evidence handling, and day-to-day operations. It requires us to not only have those policies in place, but to show that we’re actually following them. It’s all about being consistent, accountable, and doing things the right way.

It’s also important because accreditation is required if we want to qualify for certain grant funding. Staying compliant helps us continue to bring resources back into our department and our community.

We’re happy to say our accreditation is good through January 1, 2028.

This isn’t a one-and-done deal. It’s something we’ll keep working on to make sure we stay current and continue improving.
