June is Men's Mental Health Month.

CHECK IN ON A BROTHER!

Many men carry challenges silently.

A simple text, phone call, or conversation can remind someone that they are seen, valued, and supported.

Today , at Phumulani, we challenge you to reach out to one man in your lifeโ€”a friend, brother, father, colleague, or neighbourโ€”and ask:

"How are you really doing?"

You never know how much that conversation may mean.

If you or someone else is struggling, call or text 988 for help

June is Men's Mental Health Month.

"When I shared, someone said, 'I feel the same.' That's when I felt less alone."

Many men carry their struggles in silence, believing they have to face everything on their own. But opening up can create connection, understanding, and healing.

Sometimes, the simple act of sharing your story helps someone else realize they are not alone, and reminds you that you're not alone either.

Today at Phumulani we say, "Check in on a brother. Listen without judgment." Speak without shame. Support without hesitation.

Real strength is reaching out. Real courage is speaking up. Real change starts with conversation.

June is Men's Mental Health Month.

Today we are reminding men that they are not alone.

Some battles aren't visible, but that doesn't make them any less real.

To every man carrying a burden in silence: you are not alone. There is strength in opening up, courage in seeking support, and hope in knowing that others are walking this journey with you.

At Phumulani, we can break the stigma and build a community where every man feels seen, heard, and valued.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 for support.

June is Men's Mental Health Month.

"Taking care of your mind is part of taking care of your life."

Many men are taught to stay silent, push through, and carry burdens alone. At Phumulani, we're challenging that narrative.

Your mental health matters. Your feelings matter. Your story matters.

Checking in with yourself, reaching out for support, and having honest conversations are acts of strengthโ€”not weakness.

Let's create spaces where men feel seen, heard, and supported.

Comfortโ€™s leadership through Phumulani has helped African immigrant and refugee survivors access advocacy, healing services, housing support, legal resources, and culturally specific pathways to safety and restoration.

This moment reminds us that the story of immigrant communities is not only one of struggle. It is also a story of courage, resilience, leadership, and transformation.

Congratulations, Comfort. Your work continues to inspire hope, healing, and community.

June in Men's Mental Health Month

Many men struggle with their mental health but never seek support because of stigma, fear of judgment, or the belief that they must handle everything alone.

Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community.

This Men's Mental Health Month, let's challenge the idea that asking for help is a sign of weakness. Seeking support is an act of courage.
At Phumulani, we can create spaces where men feel safe to speak, heal, and thrive.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 for support

๐Ÿ’™June is Menโ€™s Mental Health Month๐Ÿ’™

A crucial time to break the silence surrounding men's psychological well-being. At Men 4 Equality, we believe that true equality includes equal freedom to speak up, seek help, and heal without judgment or stigma. Statistically, men are far less likely to seek professional help for mental health challenges, yet they face disproportionately high rates of su***de.

Society often teaches men to mask their vulnerability with anger or silence, pushing them into dangerous isolation. We must change this narrative by creating supportive spaces where emotional expression is viewed as a sign of strength, not weakness. Mental fitness is just as vital as physical fitness.

If you are struggling, please know that you do not have to carry the weight alone. Reach out to a friend, check in on your brothers, and normalize these essential conversations. Let's work together to build a future where every man feels seen, heard, and supported.

Violence Free Minnesota is excited to share the "Rooted in Community: Survivor Defined Safety Through Culturally Responsive Practices" report.

https://www.vfmn.org/reports

VFMN wants to thank AICHO, Esperanza United, Missions Inc. Programs, Kissy's Stay Put Services, Phumulani Minnesota African Women Against Violence, and Transforming Generations for their time, expertise, and dedication to this work. We are grateful for your partnership.

This report answers the question: โ€œWhat might domestic violence response, support, and services look like if we listened to the survivors most often left out of the conversation?โ€

VFMN partnered with culturally specific advocacy programs across Minnesota to conduct focus groups with survivors of domestic violence from diverse communities. Survivors shared their experiences with abuse, barriers to seeking safety, and the interventions they believe could have made a difference.

While each community identified unique challenges shaped by culture, history, and systemic inequities, common themes emerged across groups, including the need for safe and affordable housing, flexible financial assistance, culturally specific advocacy services, healthy relationship education, community-based intervention options, and improved responses from systems such as law enforcement, schools, and employers.

The findings underscore the importance of investing in survivor-centered, culturally responsive approaches that recognize the diverse realities of survivors and expand pathways to safety, healing, accountability, and long-term well-being.

This report is a reflection of what survivors told us and a call to action for building responses that truly meet the needs of every community in Minnesota.
