Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten Senator for Minnesota Senate District 66.

As we approach the one year anniversary of June 14, let’s support the Hoffman family as they continue their recovery and public service.

Let’s remember the amazing lives that Melissa, Mark & Gilbert Hortman lived.

Let’s honor the Hortman’s in the way their children asked us to:
▫️ Plant a tree.
▫️ Visit a local park and make use of their amenities, especially a bike trail.
▫️ Pet a dog. A golden retriever is ideal, but any will do.
▫️ Tell your loved ones a cheesy dad joke and laugh about it.
▫️ Bake something — bread for Mark or a cake for Melissa, and share it with someone.
▫️ Try a new hobby and enjoy learning something.
▫️ Stand up for what you believe in, especially if that thing is justice and peace.

It’s a beautiful day to celebrate Juneteenth & Pride! ✊🏽☀️🌈

Our family started the day at City of Roseville,’s 8th Annual Juneteenth celebration. Afterwards, we stopped by the Pride celebration at the Ramsey County Library in Roseville, where I picked up this great button.

So glad we could get out and support both of these incredible community events today!

This session, we also passed a comprehensive, bipartisan $1.2 billion bonding package that will invest in Minnesota’s shared state assets like water and sewer systems, roads and highways, public colleges and universities, and more.

I’m proud to have secured funding for these local District 66 projects:

🏫 $35 mill for University of Minnesota Twin Cities St. Paul Campus Center
🐯 $9.3 mill for Como Park Zoo Big Cat Habitat

It’s been a tough year marked by political violence, cruel federal attacks and rising costs.

While Republicans cut healthcare, cut food assistance and sent masked federal agents to invade our communities, Senate DFLers fought to lower your expenses and protect Minnesotans.

I’m proud of the bills I chief-authored this session to support families, alongside the massive community investments we delivered as a team:

🎓 Priority Registration: I chief-authored priority registration for student parents all MN colleges & universities
🛡️ $12M Crime Victim Services: I led the charge to secure this vital funding for survivors.
🏠 $40M Family Homelessness Prevention
📉$125M Property Tax Relief
🏥$205M to save MN’s largest public safety net hospital HCMC

Much of our work was repairing the chaos coming out of Washington. I will never stop fighting for our community.

Crime victims services support Minnesotans in every county during the darkest moments of their lives. This year, the fund faced a $12 million shortfall due to federal cuts. We just passed my bill to fully fund that gap.

This win belongs to these fierce advocates:
Violence Free Minnesota
Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault
Mending the Sacred Hoop
Minnesota Indian Women's Sexual Assault Coalition
Minnesota Children's Alliance
Minnesota Alliance on Crime

Mothers ARE the movement. This is a great story. I was honored to share more about my work to make the Minnesota Senate more inclusive and improve maternal health outcomes.

Mothers’ experiences often intersect with federal policy battles over gun violence, immigration and childcare

In August, the Annunciation community experienced an unthinkable tragedy. Then, they got organized, began meeting with legislators and asked us to take action. Yesterday, we finally did.

The Senate DFL has passed a historic comprehensive gun violence prevention package that includes banning the sale of semiautomatic military-style assault weapons, school safety aid, mental health funding, and more.

I voted yes for my son Leo, for all our kids, and for the future they deserve.

I am so grateful for Haley Taylor Schlitz’s voice. Covering doula services for all Minnesotans will save Black and Indigenous women's lives; stalling my bill leave more of us to die. This is not a 'niche' issue; this is about keeping parents and children alive.

This is not a debate over whether doulas are real professionals or whether their support is meaningful — we’ve already answered those questions. The real question is who gets access, Haley Taylor Schlitz writes.

During Black Maternal Health Week, Senator Clare Oumou Verbeten shares her firsthand experience of a traumatic and dangerous birth. She calls for more than apologies and safety stories, but action and policy change.
