Happy Labor Day! 🚂

Labor Day became a U.S. federal holiday in 1894 largely because of a major nationwide railroad and factory worker conflict known as the Pullman Strike. In May 1894, the Pullman Palace Car Company cut worker wages by 25% due to an economic depression, but refused to lower rents in the company-owned town. The American Railway Union (ARU) supported the workers by launching a nationwide boycott. To mend relations with the working-class, President Cleveland rushed legislation through Congress and signed Labor Day into law on June 28, 1894.
