Did you know that the LWV's moonshot goal is to abolish the Electoral College? This requires a constitutional amendment and will take a long time. don't worry though; there is a work-around that is close to taking effect called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. MN passed this in 2023 and we only need 48 more electoral votes for it to take effect nationally!

Though we know so many schools in Minnesota have already started, happy back to school! With the late Labor Day this year, we have some exciting civic celebrations coming up quick. Schools can plan quick and join us for September 15 National Voter Registration Day (https://www.lwvmn.org/nvrd) and utilize the resources shared for September 17 Constitution Day!

The weekend. The eight-hour day. Child labor laws. None of it showed up on its own. Workers marched and organized for decades before lawmakers caught up. Many of the people in that first Labor Day parade in 1882 couldn't even vote. Change starts with people who show up, and it sticks when they can vote. LWVMN members will be equipped with basic knowledge about the ballot measure and be able to point voters to appropriate state and local school district sources of information regarding it during our fall voter service work.

Denise Dittrick and Kimberley Dunn Lewis from the MN School Boards Association will present non-partisan information regarding the ballot measure, which passed the Minnesota State legislature this past session with strong bipartisan support.

This webinar will be recorded and posted on YouTube for public viewing. Attendees are encouraged to pose questions in the chat during the webinar for Denise and Kim to answer after the presentation.

We had a great time marching in the State Fair parade today! It was hot and the parade was crowd was wonderful! Thank you to all the local Leagues that joined, and to our parade partners - Youth Voter Project, Vote 16MN, and YMCA Center for Youth Voice. Now let's swing to the polls!
