I was moved by the inspiring event last night to honor those affected by cancer. Mr. Dan has put in many hours with the team from Relay for life Freeborn Mower American Cancer Society Relay For Life Relay For Life of Mower County. This last year has had a lot of cancer challenges for loved ones close to me. My dad was diagnosed with non-hodgekins lymphoma but responded very well to treatment thanks to great research and doctor care. The honorary chair for this year was also the principal during my time at Hollandale Christian School. Cancer affects nearly all families. Thank-you to The Hormel Institute for sharing your research and support. Thank you to all of the local businesses who gave towards this successful day.

There is great Hope because of the communities who come together to fight for their neighbors and help grow research.

This week has been busy with amazing community activities.
It was so great to watch a new firefighter get pinned at the City of Austin, Minnesota city council meeting. Thank you for allowing me to provide an update from the legislative session.
On the same evening, I met the Brownsdale city council too. It was wonderful to answer questions and provide a legislative update.
On Tuesday, I went to the Steele Waseca Cooperative Electric annual meeting. They celebrated their workers and congratulated a couple of retirements.
There was perfect weather for 4th Ave Fest. I enjoyed talking to Austin Aspires , Riverland Community College , Welcome Center of Austin , and Mower County Health & Human Services . I also saw some fun people at Matchbox Children's Theatre of Austin MN and Summerset Theatre . I'm looking forward to their productions.
Finally on Thursday, I met with some colleagues from Professional Education Licensing Board to discuss legislation for next session about paid student teaching. They made the trip to Austin to see the SPAM Museum and eat at Piggy Blues BBQ . A great time was had by all.
I love living in this community that celebrates the good. Have a blessed weekend.

Our graduates are the future of our communities and state. It is inspiring to see and hear from these young leaders as they go forth from high school. I look forward to seeing the futures they will effect. Memorial Day is a special day set aside to honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. As we attended several ceremonies across the region, we remembered those who gave the last full measure of devotion. Several speakers shared of their experiences in service and reminded us "freedom does not have an expiration date." They asked us to stop finding ways to attack each other and honor those who gave their lives by serving our communities and living patriotically. God bless our families, communities and the United States of America on this Memorial Day.

Last night there were several graduations. Hayfield Community Schools Lyle Public School and Southland Schools. We went to Southland this year. It is fun to see the excitement of family and friends and to hear of the blessings of small rural schools and their connections to the community. We love their Senior Seminar project that students do for graduation.Some will continue on with school, some will follow the trades, a few are undecided and some will continue on the family farm. We pray a blessing over the graduates and their families for their future. .

Yesterday, I attended the Southern Minnesota Education Consortium Graduation. It was inspiring to hear the stories from students about the obstacles they overcame to achieve this step in their journey. It was a reminder that not every schools fits every student and how alternative practices create additional opportunities Some of the quotes were things like "SMEC changed the definition of school and saved my life." "Sometimes you aren't the problem, sometimes you haven't been given the right environment to grow." "I refuse to let my past define me." Congratulations Graduates!!
