SPPPD was honored to join area leaders last night to celebrate and recognize an amazing public safety leader as he retired. Chief Koerner is a friend to St. Paul Park and is known for his genuine acts of caring for others. He will be missed in the public safety realm, but will still remain active connected to our communities.

About Koerner’s retirement, SPPPD Chief Whiteford said: “In my brief time in St. Paul Park, Chief Koerner has been an instrumental partner and friend as I have settled into my role. He truly believes in commitment to team, family, and public safety in our area.”

Congratulations to Chief Koerner on his retirement!

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. One simple text, one quick chance to find something that dropped between the seats can destroy a life. No re-do’s, no pause and rewind. Help keep your community safe (walkers and motorists) by avoiding distractions.

Ashley Lehman was a mother, a wife and a best friend.

Last July, a T-bone crash at a four-way stop in Shakopee changed everything. She spent months fighting for her life — a battle she ultimately lost.

Her family and community are now left trying to make sense of a tragedy that never should have happened. For Shakopee area law enforcement, Distracted Driving Awareness Month is a chance to step up and stop dangerous driving.

A distraction lasts only a moment, but the consequences of a traffic crash can last a lifetime.

Last year there were at least 21 deaths and 159 serious injuries related to distracted driving.

Recent snowfall forecast for the winter storm approaching this evening through Sunday evening range in total accumulation between 8 and 14 inches. Anything above 8 inches would be considered a significant snowfall.

City of Saint Paul Park Public Works and Police Department staff remind residents to take common sense precautions
-try not to drive unless absolutely necessary
-keep the streets clear so our public work staff can rapidly remove snow
-be mindful of your own physical limitations removing snow

This could be a protracted event and city staff will do what we can to make sure the streets are safe and access to emergency services remain open and accessible.

Thanks -Spring is coming.

With this weekend's expected snowfall, just a reminder that the winter parking restrictions are still in effect until April 1. No parking from 2am to 6am on city streets, or any time of the day that would prohibit snow removal by our plows. Our Public Works Department will stay on top of expected snowfalls and adjust snow removal accordingly. Please keep an eye on the weather this weekend and stay safe!

As we ring in the New Year, we’d like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe start to 2026! 🎉

Please remember to drive safely, and if you do plan to drink, make arrangements for a sober ride home.

The winter parking ban will be lifted tonight, December 31 into January 1 so residents can enjoy the holiday.

The parking ban will resume on January 1, and we ask that all vehicles be removed from the street by 2:00am on Friday, January 2.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe, and Happy New Year!

Given the forecasted snowfall today and tomorrow, we would like to remind the public to prioritize safety by ensuring their vehicles are equipped with winter survival kits. These kits should include essential items such as warm clothing, blankets, snow shovels, charged cellular phones, and non-perishable snacks.

When shoveling snow, please be aware of your physical limitations and take regular breaks to avoid overexertion.

Additionally, we kindly request that residents refrain from parking on streets to facilitate efficient snow removal by public works.

The Saint Paul Park Police Department would like to spread love and joy this holiday season, wishing everyone a truly Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

With the holidays in mind, we are lifting the winter parking ban for Wednesday, December 24 and Thursday, December 25.
