St Matthews Fire Department and Belleville Volunteer Fire Department had a joint training this morning. We all met at Gates Auto Salvage for some auto extrication training. Thanks to Matt Edmond for securing the site with the owner. Also thanks to Ross Binsley for guiding us through the different scenarios. We all learned some new things that will help us grow as firefighters.

🔌 UNPLUG CHARGERS WHEN NOT IN USE

Many chargers continue to draw a small amount of electricity even when they are not charging a device. While modern chargers are generally safe, damaged, low-quality, or counterfeit chargers can overheat and become a fire hazard.

Fire Safety Tips:

✅ Use certified chargers
✅ Replace damaged chargers and cables
✅ Avoid overloading outlets
✅ Keep chargers away from beds, curtains, paper, and other combustible materials
✅ Unplug chargers when not in use

A few seconds to unplug a charger can help reduce electrical hazards and improve safety at home.

Today, let us all remember the sacrifices these 9 brother firefighters made 19 years ago. Their lives were given in the bravest profession around. The sacrifices their families made in allow them to be a part of this brotherhood was enormous. Please keep them in mind and in our prayers. We honor every one of them today and always.

Every firehouse has moments where someone says,
“It’s not that big of a deal.”

That is exactly how standards die.

The things we ignore today become accepted tomorrow.
The shortcuts we excuse become habits.
And the behavior we tolerate eventually becomes the culture we are known for.

Strong firehouses are not built because everything is perfect.

St Matthews Fire Department received the South Carolina Fire Safe Community Designation for a third year. Captain Binsley completed the required Community Risk Reduction training that is required to receive this designation. We are very proud of his dedication to community risk reduction and community safety.
