We are so thankful for assistance from Crystal Fire Department, City of St. Marys Police Department, and Ridgway Ambulance Corporation without question when call volume spikes - allowing us to continue to provide high quality, uninterrupted coverage to our community.

And it does not go without the cooperation of local businesses allowing their employees to “step out” when the call comes. This point is SO important - this is why it is important to support local, because they support you, your family, your community, and your safety more than you know! 💙

🚨 BUSY DAY FOR ELK COUNTY FIRST RESPONDERS | Community Update

If you had your scanner on today, you already know the airwaves were absolutely buzzing. It was a busy day for our local Emergency Medical Services across Elk County.

When regional volume spikes, our local public safety network relies heavily on seamless teamwork. Today was a textbook example of that.

👏 A Huge Shout-Out to Our Local Businesses!
An overlooked part of making days like today work is our local business community. We want to send a massive thank you to the area employers and companies who graciously allow their employees to drop what they're doing and leave work at a moment's notice to respond to an emergency. Without these businesses allowing their staff to step away, daytime staffing would be an even bigger hurdle. Your civic partnership literally saves lives!

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of our local paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, cops, dispatchers, and the businesses who support them.

Here is a quick look at today's incident numbers by department:
Ridgway Ambulance - 7
St. Marys Ambulance - 8
Fox Township Ambulance - 2
Crystal Fire Department - 5
Ridgway Fire Department - 1

📊 Data Disclaimer: These numbers were aggregated using public CAD data from the PulsePoint app. While PulsePoint gives us an excellent window into real-time regional activity, incident logging can sometimes vary or update after the fact. These figures are intended to show relative call volume and community trends rather than an official, audited department record.

It is with profound sadness that we join our EMS colleagues in mourning the unexpected loss of AEMT Scott Wachob.

Scott’s impact on EMS extended far beyond the patch on his shoulder. Recently, when asked why he chose a career in EMS, his answer was simple: he enjoyed caring for members of his community. Those who knew and worked alongside him know that those were not just words - they were a reflection of who he was every day.

Scott treated every patient with kindness, dignity, and compassion. He was never impatient, dismissive, or unkind. Whether responding to an emergency or simply offering a reassuring presence, he genuinely cared about the people that he served. He loved EMS, and that passion was evident in every interaction, every patient encounter, and every effort made to better himself and those around him.

Scott recently achieved his Advanced EMT certification, an accomplishment he was incredibly proud of and one that reflected his ongoing commitment to the profession he loved.

Today, we remember not only an EMS provider, but a caring member of the community, a colleague, and a friend.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his son, his entire family, and all who had the privilege of knowing Scott.

Rest easy, Scott. Thank you for your service, your compassion, and the difference you made in the lives of so many. 🚑🚒❤️

What can you do if he’s “Choosin’ Texas?” Probably not much. But in a cardiac emergency, there IS somethin’ you can do. Know the two simple steps of Hands-Only CPR.

If you see a teen or adult collapse, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of this country smash from Ella Langley.

Putting a face to the coordinator behind the screen! 👋📸

Whether we’re old friends or you’re new around here, I wanted to pause and share a quick look at the face behind all the recent adoption posts. For those of you I know - hello! For those of you I don’t, I’m Brea - a paramedic and the Assistant Manager here at SMAAS.

This EMS Week, I set out with a goal, a little creativity, and a lot of hope. What started as a very fun, small project for our providers here at SMAAS turned into more than I could have ever imagined. Thanks to the phenomenal response from our local communities, I was able to officially organize adoptions for 75 providers across 6 agencies and 3 counties! 🤯

I owe a MASSIVE, heartfelt thank you to the 58 amazing individuals and businesses who adopted our providers and brought this project to life. You made my inner coordinator incredibly happy, and you made our providers feel deeply appreciated. Cheers to an amazing community! 🥂🚑

Thank you ALL for making this such a fun, rewarding experience for me. 🩷

EMS Week Provider Adoption Success! 🎉

We want to send a massive thank you to everyone in the community who signed up and came through for our providers!

Seeing the variety of personalized gifts come through the door has been absolutely amazing. The thoughtfulness was so spot-on that our providers have actually been guessing which gift belonged to whom just by looking at the items! It’s incredible how much care was put into an anonymous list.

I also want to extend a big thank you to the participating neighbor agencies for letting me coordinate this, and to their communities for jumping in. You made this a spectacular EMS Week activity! We appreciate you all so much. 🚑❤️

🚑 National EMS Week 2026: Improving Outcomes, Together 🚑

Today marks the start of National EMS Week, and this year’s theme couldn't hit closer to home for us: “Improving Outcomes, Together.”

When a critical emergency happens, saving a life is never a solo mission. It relies on a seamless chain of survival that starts the moment you dial 911.

We want to take this opportunity to highlight the incredible, strong allies we have in our region. No single agency can do it alone, and we are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our local:
• 911 Dispatchers (the calm voices guiding the way)
• Fire Departments & Law Enforcement (our vital partners securing scenes and providing rapid first response)
• Neighboring EMS Agencies

The Power of the ALS Intercept 💪
A perfect example of "Improving Outcomes, Together" is our Advanced Life Support (ALS) intercept services. When a neighboring basic life support crew answers a high-acuity call, our ALS teams roll out to meet them en route. By blending our paramedic-level critical care with their rapid transport, we bring the emergency room directly to the roadside.

It’s a collaborative effort that cuts down time-to-treatment, strengthens the local continuity of care, and—most importantly—gives our patients the absolute best chance at a positive outcome.

To our crew, our mutual aid partners, and the communities we are honored to protect: Thank you for your trust, your dedication, and your unwavering support.
Together, we are stronger. Together, we save lives.

Happy EMS Week! 🎉
