Trash Bash Canceled Due to Weather

Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain and unsafe conditions, we’re canceling this year’s Annual Trash Bash which was scheduled for tomorrow May 2, 2026.

We love seeing our community come together to keep our area clean, and we’re just as disappointed as you are. Safety always comes first, and the wet conditions simply aren’t suitable for the event.

Thank you to everyone who planned to join us—we appreciate your dedication!

Stay dry and safe, everyone!

St. Martinville mourns the loss of a man who devoted his life to this community. Former Mayor Thomas Nelson has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service that shaped our city for decades.

For 26 years, Mr. Nelson served as a Police Juror, pouring his energy into the Cade area and helping guide the progress that shaped that community into what it is today. The roads traveled, the improvements made, the doors opened for future generations. His fingerprints are on so much of it.

When he stepped into the Office of Mayor, he brought with him a lifetime of hard-earned wisdom and a genuine love for the people he served. For 12 consecutive years, he led our city with steady hands and an open heart, never forgetting that the title of mayor meant one thing above all else: service to the people.

Mr. Nelson understood something important. Public service isn’t about position or recognition. It’s about showing up, day after day, for the community that raised you and the neighbors who count on you. He lived that truth.

To his family, his loved ones, and all those whose lives he touched along the way, our city wraps its arms around you in this moment of grief. May you find comfort in the memories, strength in one another, and peace in knowing that his legacy lives on in every corner of St. Martinville he helped build.

Rest easy, Mr. Nelson. St. Martinville is better because you were here.
