St. Louis Area Fire Department Fire, Rescue, Extrication and Medical First Responder St. Louis Area Fire Department (formaly MMCFD) is a Fire Department covering the City of St.

Louis, Bethany, Pine River and Jasper Townships in Gratiot County Michigan. The department has 25 Firefighters 2 engines, 1 tanker, 1 Rescue and one grass truck operating out of one station.

Jasper residents please take notice.
Michigan DNR has closed burning from the Midland /Gratiot county line north, all the way to Lake Superior. We anticipate this to be a lengthy closing of burning as no real rains forecasted. Following these DNR rules will save tax dollars by limiting needless fire dispatches. Thank you.

It’s the time of year we must remind people that the Saint Louis community is fortunate to have multiple organic farmers in the area, all using large propane burners for w**d control. Therefore we have provided training examples for potential 911 callers. Picture one, big time problem, please call 911. Picture two, organic farmer operating a w**d burner, please don’t dial 911.

Today we continued what has become an annual tradition, updating the memorial markers of those that poured a solid foundation here at SLAFD. This one was a little extra special as we also honored the greatest friend and mentor who we lost in August.
We sure do miss Chief House.

We are hiring!

The Alma District Fire Department is looking to add a Firefighter to the team. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid State of Michigan Vehicle Operator's License. Michigan Firefighters Training Council Certification as a Firefighter I and II are preferred but not required.

All interested applicants should visit https://myalma.org/employment.php for the full job description and a copy of the City of Alma Application. Applications can also be picked up at City Hall during regular office hours. Deadline to apply is June 1, 2026.
