WALKING TOUR: THE GREAT SWAMP AND SKUNK HOLLOW

For our third year of this tour, we’re trying something new.
We’ve combined what had been two separate tours into one Saturday, middle-of-the-day, two-parter. With lunch at Park Tavern in the middle.

We start at 10am, assemble at Park Tavern and take a walk around Louisiana Oaks Park.

Then lunch at the Tavern, and drive to Creekside Park for the afternoon tour along Minnehaha Creek. Should be done by 2pm.

First tour is Saturday, June 27th. So, check out the arrangements and register with our partner, Hennepin History Museum.

We thank Phil Weber and Park Tavern for graciously hosting and sponsoring us three years in a row.

Hope to see you.

The Hennepin History Museum's website is having problems. We will re-post news about this summer's St. Louis Park walking tours after their website is back up and running.

A classic car is at least 20 years old. Historic events are not defined that way.

The Cedar Lake Regional Trail along the SWLRT Green Line officially reopened with appropriate hoopla and celebration.

The City of SLP had a nice information, treats, water and information setup at the Louisiana Station today, a perfect day for biking and walking.

The St. Louis Park Historical Society was there to record the event and enjoy the perfect weather.

Congratulations David Davis!

Congratulations David Davis!

Congratulations David Davis, the 2026 Education Minnesota Teacher of the Year!

A music teacher with St. Louis Park Public Schools, David is raising the bar for educational excellence by centering student voice and creativity. He sees his students as “co-teachers” and empowers them to compose, improvise, and actively shape their own musical identities.

Every day, David brings to life the transformative power of music education.

We saw a post the other day from a St. Louis Park-interested group showing a lovely color photo of a Naegle billboard in Minneapolis advertising Ewald Brothers dairies.

We had our own version in the Park in the 1930s, located on a building erased by the construction of Hwy 100. The 1937 aerial photo shows where it was.

Unlike many Minnesota communities, St. Louis Park doesn’t have a Sister City.
But we do have a “Brother-in-Law” city, Robbinsdale, MN.
Seems that A.B. Robbins married T.B. Walker’s sister, Adelaide Julia Walker, in 1869.
Both Walker and Robbins played outsized roles in local history.
Any which way, we are happy to announce that Robbinsdale has launched a history podcast. We wish our shirt-tail relatives well.
Robbinsdale Welcomes Local History Podcast

The Robbinsdale Historical Society has released its new podcast, Robbinsdale Revisited, exploring the history of neighborhoods, schools, and colorful characters from Robbinsdale's past. The first 11 episodes share tales of the city from the 1850s through the 1960s.

The podcast is available on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, and wherever podcasts are found. To learn more about the Robbinsdale Historical Society, please visit us at robbinsdale.org

2026 is almost here, and what a better way to start the new year than by getting outside and searching for New Year's gnomes!

Each week in January, a different New Year's gnome will be placed in one of the city's parks. Once a gnome is placed in a park, it will remain there until the end of January. We will give out clues to help locate the different gnomes each week on Tuesday morning through social media and GovDelivery emails.

It is said that those who snap a photo with one of the New Year's gnomes will have some of its good luck transferred to them! Share your photos with us through social media by posting them in the comments section of our weekly clue posts.

Please make sure to leave the gnomes where they are placed for others to find and share in the good luck!

Need some help? Visit the St. Louis Park Historical Society's website for some inspiration!
