Measles is a very contagious disease. One person with measles can easily pass it on to 9 out of 10 people around them who are unvaccinated or do not have natural immunity, and it is especially dangerous for babies and those who are immunocompromised.

It spreads through the air when a person with measles coughs or sneezes, and can remain airborne for up to 2 hours.
It can also live on surfaces.

The best way to prevent measles is to receive 2 doses of the MMR vaccine. The MMR vaccine offers protection against measles, mumps, and rubella.

We offer the MMR vaccine at the City of St. Joseph Health Department. Services are provided Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m., except on the last business day of the month when we are closed in the afternoon to conduct vaccine inventory.
