Please join us in congratulating Shirlie Brill on her retirement from SJFD after 22 years of service! Shirlie joined St. Joe Fire & Rescue in May 2004 and officially retired on May 2, 2026.

During her time with the department, she played a tremendous role in our annual Fire Prevention Week, visiting schools and teaching children all about fire safety. Shirlie also served as our department secretary for many years as well.

Thank you, Shirlie, for your dedication to serving our community and for your commitment to the department. Congratulations!

Last nights drill was all about sharpening our Search & Rescue skills 🧯🔥

Members trained using our new smoke machine to simulate zero-visibility conditions, putting their search techniques and communication to the test. We also ran a blindfolded open room search, focusing on maintaining orientation and working effectively as a team when visibility is completely gone.

To wrap things up, we challenged ourselves with a maze board exercise—guiding a ball from one end to the other—reinforcing patience, coordination, and clear communication under pressure.

Training like this ensures we’re ready when it matters most. Proud of the hard work and teamwork shown by everyone tonight. 💪🚒

🚒 Truck Tuesday – Meet Unit 9 🚒

This week we’re highlighting one of our newest additions to the fleet — Unit 9!

Unit 9 is a versatile side-by-side equipped with a skid unit, allowing us to quickly respond to grass fires, off-road incidents, and hard-to-reach emergencies. Whether it’s tackling a fast-moving brush fire or accessing patients in remote areas, this unit gives our crew the ability to move fast and operate where traditional apparatus can’t. Equipped with tracks in the winter months, this machine can tackle a variety of rugged terrain that will get us where we need to go.

đź’§ Firefighting Capability: Onboard skid unit for rapid attack on wildland and brush fires
đźš‘ Rescue Ready: Designed to assist with patient access and transport in challenging terrain
🌲 All-Terrain Access: Built to go where bigger trucks can’t

Unit 9 plays a critical role in keeping our community safe—especially in those places off the beaten path.

This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week — honoring the calm voices behind the calls, the unseen heroes behind the scenes, and the lifeline of every emergency response.

Our dispatchers are the first to answer when seconds matter most. They provide reassurance in moments of fear, gather critical information, and coordinate the response that keeps our community safe. Their professionalism, dedication, and ability to stay composed under pressure make all the difference.

To our telecommunicators: thank you for your commitment, your resilience, and your service. While you may not always be seen, your impact is felt every single day. Special shoutout to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, thank you for what you do and making our jobs easier!
