Youth Volunteer Corps of St. Joseph MO

Youth Volunteer Corps of St. Joseph MO We engage youth (11-18) in team-based, structured, diverse, flexible service-learning opportunities. YVC of St Joseph MO is based out of the Youth Alliance.

The Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) is a national, not-for-profit network of programs that offer young people, ages 11 to 18, the opportunity to improve their community through volunteering. Four fundamental goals:

1. To engage youth in service projects that are challenging, rewarding and educational.

2. To serve the unmet needs of the community and its residents.

3. To promote among youth a greate

r understanding and appreciation for the diversity of their community.

4. To promote a lifetime ethic of service among youth.

Calling all of the YVC members and families! As we learn to grow to leaders in our community with our community service projects, it's important to let others know our thoughts and opinions! There is an option of under 18 years of age as well. Please take the time to take this survey!

Whose voice is missing?

The St. Joseph Community Culture Survey is helping us understand the real experience of people across our community, but some voices are still underrepresented.

So far, participation has been strongest among older adults, business leaders, educators, and nonprofit leaders. We would especially love to hear from:

• Young adults (18–34)
• Downtown and Midtown residents
• Government employees
• Arts community members
• Anyone who feels their perspective isn't usually represented

This survey isn't about politics, blame, or criticism.

It's about listening.
Learning.
And growing together.

Help us build a more complete picture of St. Joseph by adding your voice to the conversation.

Take the survey here: https://thejosephcompany.com/st-joseph-community-culture-survey/

Results will be shared publicly at Breakfast 40 on June 23.

This is really sad to see! YVC loves to volunteer for St. Joseph Missouri Parks, Recreation, and Civic Facilities by helping to paint fences, trash cans, helping with activities during events at the parks. Please, if you have youth ages 11-18 years old and they need things to do, have them come and volunteer! Click here to sign up: https://www.yvcstjoseph.org/project-descriptions.html

YVC is not just in St. Joseph. We have such a great time going to Summit to meet all of the other youth volunteers from the different YVC affiliates! This is a really great article and shows how YVC can give the youth a voice and empowered great things! www.yvcstjoseph.org

We’re excited to share this article from this month’s edition of the National Recreation and Park Association magazine! Written by YVCHQ Marketing Manager Emily Unsen, the article tells the story of Jessica, a YVC alum whose life was transformed through service.

"Jessica’s journey is one example of how YVC can enhance park and recreation programs and inspire youth to build a lifelong relationship with service. It is a testament to what’s possible when young people are given the chance to lead, to serve and to grow."

For information on how you can implement YVC in your park and recreation department, email [email protected] or https://yvc.org/start-a-yvc/.

We help with the Prescription Take Back two times a year. YVC volunteers help to reduce waste by peeling labels (to be incinerated) and recycling the bottles (to be sterilized) so they can be used again and not end up in the landfill. If you want to see what other projects we do, check us out at www.yvcstjoseph.org!

If you have ever heard our youth volunteers talk about their families, you’d know that many have been directly impacted by blood shortages—some even seeing family members’ surgeries canceled. Our volunteers are incredibly passionate about solving this problem and supporting our community!

Please consider donating at our blood drive on April 23rd, from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Please click the link: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/donation-time?zipSponsor=64507&driveType=all
