Dana Nessel has our backs! Thank you, Attorney General Nessel!

Earlier today, Attorney General Dana Nessel released a statement announcing that the proposed ICE detention center in Romulus will not open. Nessel said DHS and ICE are moving to sell the warehouse after the State of Michigan and the City of Romulus sued to stop its conversion into a mass detention facility.

The lawsuit argued that federal officials bypassed required legal and environmental reviews and failed to properly inform the community. This outcome is a win for justice and the rule of law, affirming that government agencies must follow legal requirements and respect the rights of the communities affected by their decisions. It is also a major victory for Romulus residents and local leaders who organized, spoke out and demanded accountability, demonstrating that collective action can help ensure transparency and fairness.
