Today we celebrated an achievement several years in the making—becoming the first community in Berrien County to achieve Certified status through Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Redevelopment Ready Communities program! Certification emphasizes clear and simple processes, and confirms that St. Joseph is open for business! Special thanks to MEDC, Cornerstone Alliance and City Commissioners and staff for all of the hard work that went into achieving this milestone. We’re excited to see our City grow and continue to thrive!

Members of the public are invited to attend a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) 101 Open House on Wednesday, October 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. This event is designed as a casual Q&A, and is not a public hearing or meeting of elected officials.

A TIF isn't a tax increase, or even a new tax, but the program can be a bit confusing to understand. Attendees can expect a brief presentation from the City and Cornerstone Alliance, informative slides, public input on potential use for TIF funds, and an invitation to dialogue and answer questions.

When it comes to the health of our City roads, maintenance is as important as (and less much expensive than) replacement. Beginning this week, our Public Works department will be sealing cracks in City streets to keep our roads in good condition. Work will begin in the downtown area and move throughout the City, continuing as long as weather permits in October. Road closures as part of this work will be temporary and will shift with the work. Thank you for your patience, and for keeping an eye out for our hardworking Public Works crews!
