Today, June 15th, community members in Jasper County are once again speaking out against the proposed Amazon and NIPSCO data center expansion in Wheatfield. This project is next to the already stressed Kankakee River and is a proposed 13 building Amazon Project. This Orion AI data center campus comes alongside the gas plant meant to power Amazon facilities in Wheatfield and Hobart. While supporters call it development, many residents are worried about the long term impact on farmland, water resources, roads, and local communities. Tonightβs hearing may focus on the plat map and project layout, but this is another major step toward construction approval, which is why public input matters now more than ever.
Residents are encouraged to attend the Jasper County Plan Commission Public Hearing at 7:15 PM CT at 910 S. Sparling Ave. in Rensselaer. Community members are asking officials to stop this project altogether or at the very least slow this process down until the public can fully review the development agreements, road use agreements, and community enhancement agreements. All of this still has not been released publicly. Wear red in unity and make your voice heard.
Lastly, Whatβs most disappointing is that our representative, Mike Aylesworth (83), has not been publicly speaking out against these projects or standing with concerned residents at these meetings. Why is that? Silence is acceptance. I will be at this meeting speaking out against these data centers, and your elected officials and candidates should be there too. The people deserve leaders willing to stand with them and fight for transparency and accountability. So again I ask: where is Aylesworth? Letβs ask Tri Creek Republican Committee, Jasper County Indiana Republican Party, and Porter County Republican Party.
Remember it should be HOOSIERS FIRST. Always.
