Last night was a heck of a football game.
St. James and Cuba battled back and forth. Two student sections were rocking. The stadium was packed. It was hot, so the start time was pushed back an hour because of the heat.
With 47 seconds left, a Cuba player went down.
And everything changed.
The longer it took, the quieter the stadium became. The rivalry disappeared. Red Tigers and Yellow Wildcats alike were simply hoping for the best for that young man.
When he was taken to the ambulance, the entire stadium gave him a tremendous ovation.
The game resumed. St. James won.
But after the final whistle, both teams and their coaches gathered at midfield and knelt together in a quiet moment.
That's the picture that should be remembered from last night.
Social integrity is a focus at St. James right now. Our kids lived it last night.
After four quarters of competing against each other, they put all of that aside and came together for something bigger than the game.
That is something worth being proud of.
