SJ American Legion Post 543’s Annual Poppy Distribution is scheduled for this weekend on Saturday May 23rd & Sunday May 24th at Lowe’s Hardware in Southport, from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. These bright red Poppies commemorate those who have sacrificed their lives in wars to secure and maintain the freedoms we all experience.

There is no charge for the Poppy, but the Post accepts donations to help support its 70+ programs supporting LOCAL Veterans in need, Active-Duty and the LOCAL children and youth in our Brunswick County Area.

“94% of the Money Raised Here, Stays Here!” Post 543 is a non-profit Veterans Service Organization serving our LOCAL community. “Our Nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay.”

Past Post 543 Commander Phillip McGhee swears in Jacob Worden, from the SBHS JROTC program, as a new US Navy Member. Lt Col Glenn Baker, the commander of the JROTC program, awarded Worden a challenge coin & certificate. Jacob was the only graduating SBHS senior entering active duty this year upon graduation. Welcome aboard!
