Price's Missouri Expedition, better known as Price's Raid, was a Confederate operation led by Major General Sterling Price in the autumn of 1864. The purpose of the campaign was to retake Missouri for the Confederacy, disrupt the 1864 election, and rally pro-Confederacy sympathizers. On September 30, 1864, Price's troops reached Cuba, MO. They burned the train depot and damaged the railroad tracks. Unsure of their next Target, the Union Army enlisted local militias to protect Rolla. The Iron Works Militia Company spent 18-days protecting Rolla from potential raids. Luckily, Rolla was spared as Price's Raid moved to take St. Louis and Jefferson City.
