Summer is here and so are the 100 Deadliest Days on Utah roads.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, traffic fatalities historically increase as more drivers travel Utah’s roads. Before your next summer adventure, recommit to the Zero Fatalities pledge:
✅ Drive Alert
✅ Drive Buckled
✅ Drive Calm
✅ Drive Focused
✅ Drive Sober

Every safe decision behind the wheel helps protect Utah families and communities. Let’s work together to make this a summer of safe arrivals and zero fatalities.

☀️ School may be out, but healthy sleep habits are still in!

Summer schedules can quickly turn into later bedtimes, extra screen time, and disrupted routines — but quality sleep plays an important role in your child’s health, learning, mood, and overall well-being.

A few simple ways to support better sleep this summer:

🌞 Get outside for morning sunlight
📵 Limit screens before bedtime
🛏️ Keep a consistent bedtime routine
📚 Choose calming activities before sleep
😴 Create a cool, quiet sleep space

Building healthy sleep habits now can make summer more restful and help make the transition back to school easier later on.

🩸 Severe bleeding can become life-threatening in minutes — sometimes before emergency responders can arrive.

This National STOP the BLEED day, we're highlighting skills that anyone can learn. Knowing how to apply pressure, pack a wound, or use a tourniquet could help make a difference in an emergency.

Because in critical moments, bystanders are often the first line of help.

Learn the skills. Be prepared. Save a life.

☀️ May is National Water Safety Month, and this week is Safe Boating Week — a reminder that safety starts before you leave the dock.

Whether you're spending time on a boat, kayak, paddleboard, or enjoying Southern Utah’s lakes and reservoirs, a few simple steps can help keep everyone safe:

🦺 Wear a life jacket
👀 Stay focused on the water
🚤 Follow boating safety rules
💙 Make a plan before heading out

According to recent U.S. Coast Guard data, 87% of drowning victims in recreational boating incidents were not wearing a life jacket.

Enjoy the water. Boat smart. Boat safe.

☀️ Summer is filled with camps, sports, travel, family trips, and new adventures.

As teens grow, their health needs change too. Recommended adolescent immunizations help protect against serious illnesses and help keep them ready for the moments that matter most.

Talk with your healthcare provider about recommended adolescent immunizations, including:

• Tdap immunization — helps protect against tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough
• Meningococcal immunization — helps protect against meningococcal disease, including certain types of meningitis and bloodstream infections
• Annual flu immunization — helps protect against seasonal influenza

Questions about adolescent immunizations? Contact SWUPHD or speak with your healthcare provider to learn more.
