Safety tip: if you’re traveling, give yourself a little extra time, watch for heavier holiday traffic, and try to keep distractions down!

The gun permits window at the LEC will be closed on Monday, September 7th for the Labor Day holiday. Normal hours at the LEC will resume on Tuesday, September 8th.

We will also be available on Tuesday, September 8th in
Belgrade from 8:00 a.m. to noon and
Cold Spring from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In addition, we are accepting gun permit applications today, Friday, September 4th, in Melrose from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

On September 2, 1974, Mary and Susan Reker left their home in St. Cloud to walk to a local store. They were last seen at the store during the early afternoon on September 2, 1974, and never returned home. Their bodies were found 26 days later in a quarry outside of St. Cloud. The investigation into the 1974 double murder of Mary and Susanne Reker continues to be an active investigation for the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office. On Monday, August 17, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Service and Mexican authorities took Matias Polster into custody in the Celaya, Mexico area on a felony Stearns County arrest warrant for failure to register as a predatory offender. A Stearns County Deputy, who is attached to the North Star Fugitive Task Force a multi-agency law enforcement team led by the U.S. Marshals Service in the District of Minnesota, tracked Polster to the Celaya, Mexico area. Polster is being held pending legal extradition procedures back to Minnesota.
