🚨❄️SNOW STORM SAFETY ALERT❄️🚨
As this winter storm approaches our area, we want to remind you how quickly conditions can change. The safest place to be during a storm is at HOME. Please avoid all unnecessary travel so first responders, utility workers, plow crews, and other essential personnel can do their jobs safely.
🏠 If you’re staying home:
- Keep phones and laptops charged - your laptop can be an emergency power bank to charge your phone in the event of a power outage
- Have flashlights and candles ready (but use candles safely!)
- Have extra blankets, warm clothing, food, water, and medications on hand
- Check that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working
🚗 If you absolutely MUST drive:
- Slow down - roads won't be clear immediately, it takes time, and any sleet/icing will make travel worse!
- Increase following distance and avoid sudden braking
- Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle (blankets, water, snacks, phone charger)
🔥 Heating & Generator Safety:
- NEVER use grills or non-indoor propane heaters indoors
- Keep space heaters at least 3 feet from anything flammable
- Generators must stay OUTSIDE, far from doors and windows to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
🧊 Around your home:
- Clear snow from furnace and dryer vents to prevent dangerous buildup
- Watch for icy walkways and steps
- If able, check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors
Every storm brings an increase in crashes, fires, and carbon monoxide emergencies. Your preparation and precaution goes a long way.
Stay safe, stay warm, and, if possible, stay home!❄️
