Campton Township Parks & Open Space

Campton Township Parks & Open Space Tranquil natural areas, rural roads and large open spaces, farms, and their place in local history.

Though Campton Township had some active recreational facilities during the mid-1990s, the familiar rolling hills, farms and pastoral views of Campton Township had quickly begun to yield to a sea of subdivisions. To residents concerned with this fast pace of development, a plan to protect the Township’s open lands was an immediate need. A grass roots group of Township residents began looking at how

best to protect a way of life and the beautiful contours of the landscape before it was forever altered. Thus began the protection of the land that makes up Campton Township Parks & Open Space. Since then Campton Township has protected nearly 1500 acres of public land, including restored natural areas, parks and playgrounds, and historic sites.

What a jam packed day full of fun for our first day of our week 3 of Critter Camp!

We welcomed back Ms. Sherry who does dog scent training and Ms. Emma who runs Forest Side Animal Rescue.

We also were able to go on our native plant hike thanks to Ms. Sarah and enjoyed the breathtaking views.

We even snuck in a little invasive w**d pulling!

What a fun group of kids!

One reason we love having milkw**d in our parks is its vital role in supporting monarch butterflies. Milkw**d plants are the only species on which monarchs lay their eggs. The plant’s natural toxins help protect the caterpillars from predators, making it a safe place for them to grow. This caterpillar was spotted on a common milkw**d plant in the prairie at Harley Woods. Planting milkw**d in your yard can also help attract monarchs and support their life cycle!
