Summer has officially arrived in Kane County (even though we think it has been here for a while with these temps)!

Longer days, warmer weather, vacations, backyard barbecues, community events, and time spent with family and friends are all part of what makes this season special. As we welcome the first day of summer, we hope everyone enjoys a safe and memorable season with family, friends, and our local communities.

Annual Asphalt Rejuvenator Program Scheduled to Begin June 22nd

The Kane County Annual Asphalt Rejuvenator Program is scheduled to begin the week of June 22, 2026, weather permitting. The program applies an asphalt rejuvenator to roads that were resurfaced within the last year to help extend the life of the pavement.

The process includes applying a rejuvenator liquid, allowing it to cure, placing sand on the treated roads for traction, and then sweeping up excess material following completion of the treatment. This preventative maintenance reduces oxidation of the asphalt and helps prevent water from seeping into the pavement, protecting against freeze/thaw damage during the winter months.

Work is expected to occur Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Treatment operations will progress from location to location, and the schedule and sequence of work are subject to change based on weather and operational needs.
Roadways included in this year's program are:

Huntley Road
Galligan Road / Tyrrell Road
Plato Road
McGough Road
Kirk Road (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)

Roadways will remain open during treatment; however, temporary lane closures may be necessary, and traffic may be reduced to a single lane with the use of flaggers. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use caution in work zones, watch for crews and equipment, and follow directions from flaggers.

KCSO Deputies are joining in this effort with Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police agencies and sheriff's offices across the state. Union Pacific Railroad Crossing Closure
Scheduled on LaFox Road

Weather permitting, the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) will close LaFox Road at the railroad crossing located approximately ¼ mile north of Keslinger Road in Blackberry Township beginning Wednesday, June 17.

This full road closure is necessary to allow the railroad crossing to be safely reconstructed, improving the riding surface for motorists traveling on LaFox Road.

The road is scheduled to close at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, and is expected to reopen by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, weather dependent.

A posted detour route using IL Route 38, Peck Road, and Keslinger Road will safely direct traffic around the construction area (see attached map). Motorists should be prepared to reduce speed, exercise caution, and obey all posted traffic control devices while traveling through the area.

The Kane County (IL) Adult Justice Center held its first Annual Art and Writing Contest. So many wonderful essays, poems, and drawings were received that it was difficult to select winners. Staff at the Sheriff's Office all had the opportunity to cast a vote for their favorites, and the six individuals featured won. Congratulations to everyone who shared their creativity! 👏🎉
