🐱💕 Happy National Hug Your Cat Day! 💕🐱

Today is dedicated to celebrating the tiny (or not so tiny) furry rulers of our homes who somehow manage to steal our beds, knock things off counters, and still completely win our hearts. 🐾

Whether your cat is the cuddly type who loves being held or the “admire me from a distance” kind, today is the perfect excuse to show them some extra love. Break out the treats, grab the toys, and if they allow it… sneak in a hug or two. 😸

Cats may act independent, but anyone who has loved one knows just how comforting their purrs, head bumps, and quiet companionship can be. ❤️

And for the cats still waiting in shelters for someone to hug them every day — maybe your new best friend is out there waiting to meet you. 🐈

🐾✨ It’s Pet Appreciation Week! ✨🐾

The first week of June is all about celebrating the animals who make our lives brighter every single day. From the loyal dogs waiting at the door, to the cats curled up beside us, pets have a way of turning ordinary moments into the best memories. ❤️

This week, take a little extra time to appreciate your furry family members:
🐶 Go on the extra walk
🐱 Hand out the favorite treats
🎾 Play one more game of fetch
📸 Snap those silly photos
💤 And of course… give all the cuddles

And while you’re celebrating your own pets, don’t forget about the animals still waiting for a family to call their own. A little love can change a shelter pet’s whole world. 🐾

Happy Pet Appreciation Week to every spoiled, loved, goofy, loyal, and unforgettable pet out there! 🐕🐈💕

Some of the best love stories start with a rescue 🐾💛

Happy National Rescue Dog Day to all the pups who proved that second chances are worth everything.

At the St. Johns County Pet Center, we're surrounded by rescue dogs every single day. Each one with their own story, their own personality, and their own way of stealing hearts. Some are goofy. Some are gentle. Some just want to be your shadow. But they all have one thing in common: they're ready to love you like you're the best thing that ever happened to them.

Because to them? You are.

Rescue dogs don't hold grudges. They don't dwell on the past. They just move forward with hope, tail wagging, ready for whatever comes next as long as it includes you.

So today, we celebrate every rescue dog who found their person. And we hold space for the ones still waiting, knowing their perfect match is out there.

Maybe it's you. 💙

Come meet our incredible rescue dogs and see for yourself why adopting is one of the most rewarding decisions you'll ever make.

🌪️ Before the Storm Hits: Protect Your Pet with a Microchip 🐾

Hurricane season is unpredictable—and in the chaos of evacuations, open doors, and unfamiliar surroundings, even the most well-behaved pets can get separated from their families. That's where microchips come in.

A microchip is a tiny device (about the size of a grain of rice) that's placed under your pet's skin. It contains a unique ID number that links directly to your contact information.

If your pet gets lost and ends up at a shelter or vet clinic, we can scan the chip and bring them home to you. But here's the catch: it only works if your information is current.

📍 Check your microchip registry today
📍 Update your phone number, address, and emergency contacts 📍 Make sure your pet's chip is registered (yes, that's a separate step!)

Already microchipped? Great! Just take a few minutes to confirm everything is up to date.

Not microchipped yet? Stop by and let us help you get it done.

When the unexpected happens, a microchip could be the lifeline that brings your best friend back home. 💙

🌀 Hurricane Season Reminder: Your Pets Are Counting On You 🐾

Every storm season, we hear the same thing: "I didn't think it would be that bad." But by the time the evacuation orders come, it's often too late to prepare. Your pets can't pack their own bags. They can't make a plan. That's on us.

So before the next storm rolls in, ask yourself:

✅ Do I have a pet-friendly evacuation location?
✅ Is my pet's microchip registered with current contact info?
✅ Do I have enough food, water, and medication for at least a week? ✅ Are carriers, leashes, and ID tags ready to go?

If you answered "no" to any of these—now's the time to fix it. We never want to see pets left behind or families separated because of a lack of planning. A little preparation now can make all the difference when it matters most. Stay safe. Stay ready. And keep your furry family close. 💙🐾

🌡️ When the Heat Hits, Don't Let Your Pet Down 🐾 Summer is coming, and while we're all dreaming of beach days and sunshine, our furry friends are facing some serious risks.

Let's talk about what NOT to do when those temperatures start climbing:

❌ DON'T leave your pet in a parked car—not even for "just a minute." Cars turn into ovens fast, and cracked windows don't help.
❌ DON'T walk your dog on hot pavement. If you can't hold your hand on it for 5 seconds, their paws can't handle it either.
❌ DON'T skip the water bowl. Dehydration happens quickly in the heat. Fresh, cool water should always be available.
❌ DON'T assume they'll tell you when they've had enough. Heat exhaustion can sneak up fast—excessive panting, drooling, and lethargy are red flags.
❌ DON'T leave them outside without shade and water. Even outdoor pets need a cool place to escape the sun.
❌ Don't chain or tether pets outside in the sun. They need the ability to move to shade and access water at all times, don't think "they're used to it."

Just because your pet lives in Florida doesn't mean they're immune to heatstroke.

Your pet depends on you to keep them safe when they can't cool themselves down. A few simple choices can mean the difference between a fun summer and a tragic one.

Be smart. Be aware. Be their hero. 💙

🌞 Beat the Heat: Keeping Your Pets Safe This Summer 🐶🐱

Summer means sunshine, fun, and… extra responsibility for pet parents! Our furry companions can't tell us when they're overheating, so it's up to us to watch out for them.

Here are the DO's on how to keep your pets safe when temperatures soar:

✔️ **Hydration is everything** - Always have fresh, cool water available both indoors and out
✔️ **Watch for signs of overheating** - Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or vomiting mean it's time to cool down immediately
✔️ **Create cool zones** - Fans, air conditioning, or even a damp towel can help your pet stay comfortable ✔️ **Never leave them in vehicles** - Not even for "just a minute"—cars heat up fast and can be deadly
✔️ **Adjust exercise routines** - Walk during cooler parts of the day and avoid hot surfaces that can burn paws
✔️ **Indoor cats aren't immune** - Make sure your home stays cool and they have plenty of water

Your pet's safety is in your hands. Let's make sure this summer is filled with happy memories, not emergency vet visits. They depend on us—let's not let them down. 💙🐾
