HYDRANT FLUSHING, LATE SEPT, EARLY OCT
The City of St. Albans Water Department will be conducting its annual hydrant flushing program during September 21st - October 9th, in locations in the City and Town of St. Albans.

Hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining the water distribution system. The process allows us to exercise and inspect hydrants, verify proper operation, remove accumulated sediment from water mains, and help maintain overall water quality throughout the system.

Hydrant flushing will take place Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Water Department will post daily updates identifying the areas where crews will be flushing so residents and businesses can be aware when flushing is occurring in their area.

Water Department personnel will work through the distribution system in a planned sequence to minimize impacts to customers.

During flushing, customers may temporarily experience discolored or cloudy water and changes in water pressure. These conditions are generally temporary and should clear after flushing in the area has been completed.

If discolored water is observed, customers should allow a cold-water faucet to run for several minutes until the water clears. Customers are also encouraged to check their water before doing laundry, particularly when washing light-colored clothing.

The cooperation and patience of residents and businesses during this annual maintenance program is appreciated. Hydrant flushing is an important preventative maintenance activity that helps ensure the reliability of the City's water distribution system and its fire protection capabilities.

Questions or concerns regarding the hydrant flushing program may be directed to Marty Manahan, Director of Operations, at (802) 524-1500, Ext. 260.
