The wait is over!

The full schedule for the 2026 FMAWV Fall Training Conference has officially been released!

We have two days planned featuring outstanding fire and life safety training, industry expertise, networking opportunities, a Lunch & Learn, our evening social, and the FMAWV Annual Business Meeting and awards presentations.

Today, the Fire Marshals Association of West Virginia pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, our military, and ordinary citizens who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their sacrifice, their courage, and the unity that followed.

I see so many post that say, "Always Remember" or "Never Forget". Some post are from some that are too young to remember. For me it was "real." Less than 3 months earlier In June 2001 I was in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands taking classes offered by Homeland Security with members of New York City Fire Department instructing some of the class. There were a contingent from West Virginia as well as FBI. We studied a Incident Command and Hazardous Material and possibilities of Biological Agents being used by terrorist. I believe our country knew we may be attacked. Little did we know that terrorist would use our country's airlines as "bombs" against us.
I remember, I cannot forget; that day in September as I sat doing reports watching the "Today Show" when they broke with the news and showed the first plane that struck the first tower. I watched as they showed the second plane hit the next tower. I then knew this was no accident. 10 minutes later I received a page from the office and when I called they told me to be prepared they may be sending me to New York City.

For me this was REAL. I can never forget, I will always remember. A friend who was a Battalion Chief with Arlington, VA who was at the Pentagon knows it was real.

Though my career with the Fire Marshal is over, training through Homeland Security going through live nerve agent in Alabama, going through explosive training in New Mexico was REAL. I will never forget, I will always remember.
Watching what the media and politicians are doing today to split this country makes me sick.

I want to remember how our country came together, "even if it was for a short period of time" a country United States of America.
I want to forget the naive hatred shown by some people in our country, the media, and politicians.

Let us remember the picture of the magnificent Twin Towers and how our country was once a country united; this United States of America.

I posted this several years ago and it seems nothing has changed. So Sad. Still God blesses the USA.

🇺🇸 As we recognize Labor Day, the Fire Marshals Association of West Virginia extends our appreciation to the men and women whose hard work keeps our communities moving forward each day.

Labor Day is an opportunity to recognize the value of work, service, and the people behind it. Across West Virginia, countless individuals dedicate their careers to building stronger businesses, safer workplaces, and better communities.

We also recognize our public safety professionals whose work often continues while others enjoy a well-earned holiday. Public Safety does not take a day off, and neither does the commitment of those who serve and protect our communities.

Whether you are spending the holiday with family and friends or reporting for duty, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day.

🔥 FIRE INVESTIGATION TRAINING COMING TO HUNTINGTON! 🔎

The Fire Marshals Association of West Virginia (FMAWV) is pleased to share an upcoming training opportunity from our partners with the West Virginia Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (WVIAAI).

The 2026 WVIAAI Conference will bring together fire investigators, forensic specialists, fire service professionals, law enforcement partners, and industry experts for three days focused on advancing fire investigation practices, sharing real-world experiences, and strengthening collaboration across the profession.

📅 September 30 – October 2, 2026

🕗 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

This year's theme is:

“Case Management from Assignment to Closure for Public Safety and Insurance Fire Investigators”

🔥 Featured Training Topics Include:

🚨 Enrollment Needed for NFPA Certification Test Prep Training in Huntington

The NFPA Certified Fire Inspector (CFI) and Certified Fire Plans Examiner (CFPE) Test Preparation Courses are scheduled to come to Huntington, West Virginia this October, but additional participants are needed to make these courses happen!

⚠️ Current enrollment is low, and at this time there are not enough participants registered to proceed with the program offering. LETS FIX THIS!

If you are interested in attending, even if your agency is not ready to submit payment yet, please take action now so your interest can be counted toward enrollment.

🔥 PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS: EARN PDHs AT THE FMAWV FALL CONFERENCE!

The Fire Marshals Association of West Virginia is excited to announce that Professional Engineers may be able to claim Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for applicable educational sessions offered during our 2026 Fall Conference!

We recently received guidance from the West Virginia State Board of Professional Engineers regarding continuing education. While the Board does not pre-approve individual courses or providers, West Virginia PEs are permitted to determine whether educational activities are applicable to their professional development, subject to the Board’s requirements and final review.

📚 Our conference courses include:

🔹 NFPA 241 – Inspections During Construction | 2 Hours
🔹 Educational Occupancies – Codes, Standards, Plan Review & Inspections | 2 Hours
🔹 NFPA 99 – Health Care Facilities Code | 3 Hours
🔹 International Existing Building Code & NFPA 101 Chapter 43 | 2 Hours
🔹 NFPA 101 Occupancy Classifications | 1 Hour

That's a potential of 10 PDH Credits!

These courses have also been approved for AIA HSW continuing education credit for architects.

📄 FMAWV will provide certificates documenting attendance and instructional hours, which Professional Engineers may use to support applicable PDH credit in accordance with their licensing requirements.
