Keep Your Dogs Safe from the Cold — It’s the Law in Maine!
When dogs are outside in bad weather, they must have proper shelter to protect their health. Maine law requires:
✔️ A sturdy shelter with at least 3 sides and a waterproof roof
✔️ Shelter that’s appropriate for the dog’s size, breed, and weather conditions
✔️ Extra protection during severe cold, wind, and storms
🚫 Metal barrels are NOT acceptable shelters

If a dog is left outside and is shivering for 10 minutes or more, or shows signs of frostbite or hypothermia, that’s a sign the shelter is not adequate.

Let’s keep our pets warm, safe, and cared for this winter. If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them.
