Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
142 AM MDT Fri Jun 12 2026
..A Red Flag Warning is in effect for portions of the area
from 11 AM to 8 PM Friday...
..A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for portions of the area
from Saturday morning through Saturday evening...
Discussion...

Warm and breezy conditions will once again develop meteorological
critical fire weather conditions across portions of south central and
southeast Colorado, with a Red Flag Warning in place from 11 am to
8 pm across the Central and SW Mtns, the San Luis Valley and into
the gap flow areas of the middle Arkansas River Valley and Fremont
county. Will likely see critical fire weather conditions across portions
of western Pueblo county, however, the expected coverage does not
support adding the whole zone into the warning at this time. Further
east, strong to severe storms will be possible across the far southeast
plains this afternoon and evening.

Easterly upslope developing across the plains on Saturday will bring
chances of showers and storms, especially the Eastern mountains into
plains Saturday afternoon and evening. Will keep the current Fire Weather
Watch on Saturday across the Central mountains into the middle Arkansas
gap prone areas, with timing of the front and increasing available
moisture could limit the eastern extent of Red Flag conditions.

Much cooler and unsettled weather remains in the offing for Sunday
into Monday, with warmer and drier weather returning for the
middle to end of next week.

Afternoon smoke dispersion is expected to be very good to excellent
today, and across western portions of the district on Saturday.
Good or better conditions are expected across the plains on Saturday.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for South Central and Southern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
148 AM MDT Wed Jun 10 2026
..A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for portions of the area
from Noon to 8 pm Today...
Discussion...

With breezy westerly flow aloft and very dry air in place, will
continue to see meteorological critical fire weather conditions across much of the area, with current Red Flag Warnings remaining in place from noon through 8 pm where fuels are deemed critical, across the Southwest Mountains into the San Luis Valley, the gap flow areas of the mid Arkansas River Valley, the southern I-25 Corridor and across Kiowa, Bent and Prowers counties.

Will likely see critical fire weather conditions across portions
of western Pueblo county as well, though coverage is not expected to be enough to add the whole zone into a Red Flag Warning.

Poor overnight RH recovery is expected overnight, with a passing cold front across the plains developing gusty northerly winds of 20 to 40 mph in its wake early Thursday morning. Despite cooler air, but still near seasonal temperatures, the breezy and dry conditions will keep fire weather conditions elevated across the plains on Thursday, with more spotty critical fire weather conditions expected over and near the higher terrain.

Warm and breezy conditions on Friday and Saturday will once again develop meteorological critical fire weather conditions across portions of south central and southeast Colorado, especially over and near the higher terrain, with slowly increasing available moisture bringing increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms across eastern Colorado. Cooler and more unsettled weather remains in the offing for Sunday into early next week.

Upper level ridging builds back across the regionfor the middle and end of next week.

Afternoon smoke dispersion is expected to be very good to excellent across the district today and over and near the higher terrain on Thursday, withgood or better conditions across the plains for Thursday.

With the incoming snow, Winter Weather Advisories have been hoisted across the higher terrain and Palmer Divide. These go into effect Tuesday when snow will start to increase in coverage and impact potential. Be prepared for wintery driving conditions late Tuesday into Wednesday.

05/04/2026

Fresh off the press, here is our current thoughts for snow with the upcoming storm system. With any late Spring snow, snow accumulations will be dependent on several factors, but the mountains are expected to get another round of heavy and wet snow, with snow falling across lower elevations as well given colder temperatures. Continues to monitor the forecast for the latest updates on trends.

04/29/2026

Here is the look at the current forecast for snow totals with this Spring storm system. Heaviest snow will remain along the mountains through the event, though lower elevations may get some flakes Thursday night as the snow levels lowers. If traveling along the mountains, make sure to be prepared for hazardous driving conditions.
