🚒Westside Fire District Adds New Staffing🚒

The Wrenco Fire Station has a new firefighter. Selkirk Fire Engineer Jensen will now be the Resident Firefighter at that firehouse. This will bring more resources to the Westside Fire District and provide some enhanced coverage.

The Resident Firefighter program puts a volunteer firefighter into an unstaffed fire station on a permanent basis for the length of the contract. This program has been very successful for us in the past.

The real benefit with this staffing model is the depth and experience of this "volunteer". The Resident Firefighter position can be tough to fill because there is a level of competency required to safely perform the job. In this case, the community is getting a well qualified and very experienced local firefighter who is competent to support any incident on his first day.

This will be Engineer Jensen's primary residence, so we kindly ask the community to respect his space. However, when he is home, he will be on-call to serve the community when requested.

We welcome Engineer Jensen to Wrenco and thank him for his dedication to his community.

🔥Wildland Fire🔥
3000 blk Lakeshore Dr, Sagle
SKFD 3, SKFD 2, NSFD, SFD, IDL, B1202

On 05/24/26, at about 9:22pm, Selkirk Fire, Northside Fire District, Sandpoint Fire Department , and Idaho Department of Lands were dispatched to a vegetation fire in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Dr, near US-95, in Sagle. While crews were responding to this incident, Bonner County Dispatch alerted for a structure fire in the Blacktail area.

Based on life safety priorities, multiple units were diverted to the structure fire while Engine 1232 and IDL continued to the vegetation fire. 1232 arrived on scene to find a quarter-acre burning in steep terrain with a slow rate of spread. 1232, from the Dover Fire Station, is staffed with one firefighter. He took action to slow the rate of spread and attempted to hold the fire in check until IDL could arrive on scene.

Eventually, crews were able to clear the structure fire response and assist at the wildland fire. The fire was contained with minimal growth and turned over to IDL for full containment and control.

There were multiple incidents occurring during this incident including an additional vegetation fire, some of which required mutual aid assistance. We appreciate Sam Owen Fire District for their continued support.

⚠️If you have conducted a burn pile recently, please check your burn area and make sure it is completely out. Don't rely on the weather to fully extinguish your fire.
