The Human Trafficking Survivors Relief Act was recent passed by the US House of Representatives. This act would establish an affirmative defense for trafficking victims, meaning that survivors will legally have the opportunity to defend against only those charges that came directly as a result of being a trafficking victim and provides relief for survivors who have already been convicted on charges as a result of their trafficking victimization through vacatur, expungement and sentencing mitigation.

Victims and survivors of trafficking will often be forced or coerced into committing crimes by their trafficker. This bill gives those victims and survivors an avenue to have their criminal records removed so that they don't have that record hanging over them as they try to move forward.

Next step is passage by the Senate! We will be sure to continue to post updates on this bill as they come out!

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed Congressman Russell Fry’s (SC-07) bipartisan Trafficking Survivors Relief Act (H.R. 4323).The bil allows for crimin

Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial s*x act. Every year, millions of adults and children are trafficked worldwide. It is a crime that happens in every community and we need to be equipped with accurate information about it if we are to combat it!

Traffickers will use online spaces to meet and learn about potential victims. Traffickers very often try to learn as much as they can about potential victims to learn what vulnerabilities they have. Check out the DHS website about how to better keep yourself and others safer online!

Exciting news! The Trafficking Survivors Relief Act (TSRA) has just passed the first hurdle toward becoming a law this year and was voted through the House Judiciary Committee! We’re one step closer to gaining, for the first time, a federal law that will recognize that survivors should not be punished for crimes they were forced to commit and will give survivors a pathway to clear their federal criminal records.

The next step is passage through the full House of Representatives, so TAKE ACTION by asking your Representatives to support and co-sponsor this important legislation! Learn more: https://polarisproject.org/tsra/

Addiction is not consent.

The Diddy case illustrates how our federal anti-trafficking laws have not fully caught up with the evolving tactics of traffickers, particularly when it comes to drug-based coercion.
